Typical stereotyping responses we see oh so many times here.

"Yeah, I can see it now. Ford F150's and F250's rumbling around the Japanese and Korean countryside and cities with "open markets"

Yes I could ! In fact right now I have two Japanese co-workers forced to go through net auctions in their attempts to land the "Chevy Trailblazer" ! Guess they wanna be like Jack in 24 or something, who am I to criticize their dreams... too bad they have to go through such a hassle though just to get what they want. And this sillyness...

"I guess they closed the markets by having narrow roadways?"

Actually I thought the worlds most windy road, and one of the narrowest, was in... San Fransisco ! Amazing that any American made car is able to get down that thing. You people continue to spout misinformation at your own expense.

Japanese markets are simply not open to foreign auto makers... they all have said as much, and your own eyes, just take a look around today, should be enough to force you to admit it. In the US the roads are packed with cars of every make and model... like the country itself a true blend of nationalities. Japan ? Korea ? Ha ! But make no mistake... their strategy has worked ! Sorry Molenir you are wrong. Just look at nations that protect their markets at the expense of the US... they've all done pretty well. Time for managed trade people !

"Japanese stocks extended their winning streak Tuesday, lifted by encouraging U.S. economic data and relief that the fate of General Motors Corp had finally been clarified."

Awww baloney ! Who writes this stuff anyway ? Stocks in both the USA and Japan are reflecting stable oil prices ! Nothing more, nothing less. With the summer vacation season (Americas largest industry is tourism...not autos) about to unfold wary travelers are watching the pump prices. Right now oil is below $65 a barrel and thats good for both travelers and factories wanting to ramp up production during the summer. Forget all this nonsense about GM. Nobody, and I mean nobody is getting into or out of the market on any news related to GM ! You wanna play the market... follow the oil ! Don't believe me ? Pull up a few charts and just see how they mirror each other... and this goes way back to last April when oil was flirting with $100 a barrel. In summary, oil prices go up, the stock market goes down... and vice versa, easy stuff. Now get out and invest... oil has dropped this morning stateside !

Cmon people, lightening strikes, engine failure, fire on board... doesn't affect the ability to communicate with the tower. This sounds like a complete electrical meltdown leaving the pilots flying blind. Sabatoge ? Perhaps. The plane had its regular maintenance just two months ago. A slow corroding acid would do the trick I imagine... lets hope thats not the case. Sad story.

Fair enough, but only if Islam stays put... in the holy land.

The Japanese government has but one ethical responsibility... to convince those companies that benefitted from slave labor during WWII to compensate those individuals. Ya hear me Mitsubishi !!!

Lots of misguided opinions, as usual, here.

GM has always made cars that people wanted. That is how they stayed at number one for so many years. All this hoopla about smaller cars is just nonsense. Toyota has done very nicely in the US and Japanese markets with their Xtrail series. Those cars are no bigger or smaller than any US made auto. So stop the sillyness over car size. This is solely about unfair businewss practices perpetrated by the Japanese and most recently the Koreans. Both of those markets are virtually closed to outside auto makers. The fact is that once the Japanese saturated their market they then went after the US. Now the whole industtry is in turmoil, for everyone. The lesson to be learned here is that 100% open markets will be taken advantage of... they need some kind of controls ! Now looking at the big picture I like what I see with GM. A full product line of electrics just ready to roll off the conveyers once the change over has been completed. Those of you that have been wondering what GM has been doing since 9/11, well you are about to find out. The economic conditions are ripe for change, god help those countries that screwed the US and Americans the first time around. Interesting enough, I now own 60% stake in GM... you think I'll be looking at a Toyota anytime soon ? No chance !

"Marie said afterwards: “I have to let you know, I have sex about five times a day. That’s how much I love it.” Yeah, right."

That explains the somewhat haggered and desheveled look in the photo. I'm thinkin the hand on the hip also has more to do with a thrown disk than a sexy pose.

"Since when was English-speaking ability a prerequisite for playing the piano?"

Never said it was. I was making a simple observation to back my point... the audience knows nothing about him, they don't talk !

"So, did they applaud because they were 'wonderful people' being polite to an 'underdog'? Or did they applaud because he was talented?"

In my opinion, being an American and understanding the culture (as you are not and obviously don't) I would say they were simply being polite to the blind guy that plays the piano. Seems to me the author of this story is embellishing the event with some overexuberance. Americans love an underdog, put that in your "things I never knew about Americans" noto C.

"The most important objective as I’m performing is that the audience is going to be moved,” Tsujii said through an interpreter."

An interpreter ? So he's unable to communicate in English with his audience ? Again, Americans know nothing about him 'cept he's a talented blind piano player. Lets leave it at that... Cleo.

"The big deal is the lad's performance."

Maybe. Or maybe just simple acknowledgement and appreciation of his efforts. Americans are wonderful people, they will go out of their way to support the underdog. Now lets not make too much of this "blind Japanese wows Americans" nonsense, it cheapens the whole story.

"But there should be a very heavy income tax that makes ridiculously high packages meaningless in terms of individuals piling up stacks of money they're never going to have the time to spend even if they live to be 250."

Maybe in Japan ! But in North America it is extremely common, for those in the upper teirs to give millions away to charity every year. Bill Gates is a perfect example. Dude made billions, now he's giving it all away before he dies. Americans are the largest individual providers of charity and donations in the world. No need to take away these salarys, instead lets prod the rest of the planets rich, especially the Japanese, into giving more !

Hopfly, that's not socialism, considering that foreign competition has destroyed a once healthy and viable US market, well it seems like common sense ! Heck by your definition Japan and Korea are the most socialized countries on the planet ! And if it turns out to protect American jobs, well, belly up to the bar and toss one back for good ol socialism !

Hopfly, actually I thought flight attendants were ! I for one have no qualms about their right to earn as much as they can, that's never been the problem with GM. GM has been a fortune 500 company for decades and the number one producer of autos in the world for more than 70 years. Their downfall is due to too much foreign competition, many of which engages in illegal activities like unpaid overtime, dumping (anyone else up-to-date on the Toyota Prius battery scandal thats unfolding), and blocked access to other country's markets... most notably Japan and Korea ! I encourage GM workers to take their frustrations out with full scale picketing of every Japanese or Korean auto maker in the US. Shut down those operations, turn them over to American auto makers, then settle in for "managed trade" with such nations.

I see no reason to give Tabuse another shot, he had his chance and failed to make the most of it. He should be content with the CBA or other minor league levels like the BJ league !

"Why is GM bankrupt while Toyota is only suffering minor losses and looks very good long term"

Because, at least according to court rulings, Toyota employees will work for free ! No matter what GM or Chrysler may do... you can't compete with Japanese nationals who will stay at work 14-15 hours a day, much of it undocumented. Sarge points out a $1,500 dollar diff for health care, sounds like a red herring to me. If Toyota actually paid its employees for the thousands of hours of free overtime ? Game over ! GM is still in business. Wake up America, the Japanese are attacking your way of life.

The WBCers continue to fall by the wayside. Ichiro, goes down. Johjima, DL. Matsuzaka doesnt make it to the first 3 games ! Now Iwamura gets a boo-boo and goes down for the rest of the season. Well, at least he'll have time to polish his WBC trophy.

First Nissan gets 100 billion yen from the US government for EVs, now this. If my hunch is right, I see US and Japanese auto makers about to team up to take on the rest of the world for the last bastion of the auto market. The strategy is simple, leapfrog chinas attempts to corner their national market with higher tech vehicles. The Europeans for obvious reasons cant compete with this advanced technology so it looks like the di has been cast.
