"Ricako, 42, said, “I joined the campaign because I want children to eat healthy and tasty Japanese food.”
Like Instant noodles, 500 yen chemical laced bentos, or Japanese style curry rice ? Those are what the Japanese eat today ! Oh yeh, and of course McDonalds ! Don't believe me ? Check the sales figures !

"Japan auto output down on weak U.S. demand"
So why aren't they selling to other nations ? Again, I'm just sick of these countries, like Japan, that want to blame their economic problems on the USA. Funny... they weren't singing the praises of Uncle Sam when they were drumming up huge trade imbalances with the Americans ! I agree with Lietenant on this. I say shut down the auto manufacturers and electronic producers and focus more on bringing down the cost of rice. Fact is, when all is said and done the US will be able to starve Japan out of any market it wishes. The immediate future will be all about food and water, not autos. The US is 160% self sufficient. Japan will have to decide which it wants, food or Toyotas. I see hard times for the Japanese. They simply haven't developed good relations with any other nation to be going on and on with the blame game.

Iwamura continues to kill his team ! The guy has been O fer eight the past two games, two errors, and he has stranded 4 on base ! There is a definite trend here among Japanese players... they fold under pressure ! I say yank him out, put some hard nosed American kid in there and send Iwamura back to Nippon. Sorry, but outside of selling tickets to Japanese tourists visiting the USA, he's pretty much worthless !

Poor nigelboy, dude has obviously bought into the misinformation so rampantly dispersed here at these so-called "news and discussion" sites. So if I may,
"Your argument works only if there are no costs involved when a company does exactly what these dispatch agencies do."
Wrong ! Dispatch agencies are nothing more than a middle man. Common sense surely dictates that direct contractual agreements are going to be much cheaper for any company that is actively hiring ! Heres the scenerio, as is a dispatch agency charges 10,000 yen an hour for dispatching a worker. 3,000 yen goes to the worker, the agency takes the rest. The agency doesn't bother to make pension payments or insurance because they claim the dispatched individual is a "part-timer" with their firm. In this case, almost everyone loses ! The worker is underpaid, the government fails to get pension payments, insurance companys lose out, and the company receiving the laborer is paying way too much ! This is a common practice for many dispatch agencies and the leading cause of drastic increases with Japan's working poor ! What conmpanys should do, if they simply quit acting like racists, is to hire the individual at 4,000 yen an hour and take the remaining 6,000 for pensions, housing allowances, insurance premiums, etc. Now Nigelboy, I work in this industry, so trust me I know of what I speak.
"So according to your logic a small struggling company will hire a Japanese at a higher wage "3K" than a foreigner that will work for 1,500 yen/hr. Yep."
Yep is right ! Have you bothered to check the numbers of bankruptcies in Japan the last 5 years ? Have you stopped to ask yourself why there is a nursing shortage in Japan ? Have you once tried to comprehend why Yoshinoya has gone to almost all Chinese staff in their Tokyo area shops ?
"What about them? NEETS/Hikikkomori are not part of the labor force and are not included in the (日雇い)category."
But they were part of the labor force ! Trying to ignore them now is irresponsible pie in the sky nonsense ! As is the vast majority of your post... McFly !

"where did you get this 20% savings crap?"
Lemme guess, you think dispatch agencies work for free ? Cut them out completely and you still have enough left over to pay pensions (which most dispatch agencies don't) and insurance.
"Second, what makes you so sure that the Japanese won't work at lower wages from the outset?"
Because these are the same Japanese that shun the "3 K" jobs ! And again, you seem to be missing the point, the market should decide the value of these jobs... not a race/gender based archaic system like we see in Japan. Other industries, ex: foreign language teaching, has proven that foreigners from impoverished nations (the philippines, Indonesia, M.E. etc) will work for 1/2 the salary as a Japanese. I know, my office has hired up dozens of third worlders who will work for as low as 1,500 yen an hour ! The job to date has paid better than 3,500 yen an hour.
"There are over a million Japanese who are classified as Day workers (日雇い)and I'm quite positive that they will work for lower wages if they are offered as a full time staff."
Really ? How do you explain all the job hopping freeters ? NEETS ? Hikikomori ?
All of these individuals either quit a job in search of a better paying one, or have given up all together ! Talk about "abandonment and cashing in" ! A nation of quitters if you ask me !
As for race, well... I guess you weren't here when the Japanese government stated that foreign nationals will never be in positions of management where the subordinate is Japanese ! That was the beginning of Japans "nusring" crisis, and we see where "that" racist attitude got them ! Sorry, there are just too many examples and I don't want to get too far off topic. The fact is Japan's racist attitudes and xenophobic attitudes is the main reason for its problems with labor shortages !

This is nothing more than a mere reflection of continued racist attitudes by the Japanese. Put simply, they could hire these foreign workers directly at a 20% savings to their company. Cut out the dispatch agencies that send these workers to various sites and hire them on as full time staff. As new-hires most of these workers will work for lower wages from the outset. Time for Japan to stop the racism, get rid of their dead wood in their companies, and hire qualified people to do the job... no matter what nationality !

15 murdered, another 10 clinging to life. Had this slaughter been done with a gun you can bet yer booty that the JT crowd would be going on and on about the evils of handguns in society. Yet tossing a match in a crowded building, ala Don Quixote a few years back, gets nary a disgruntled moan and groan. I'll not mince words here, take this dirt ball out back and finish him ! Then go after the slackers at city hall that failed to protect the general public from such a tragedy, and yes this could have been prevented. Fire inspectors mentioned that smoke detectors were in lpace and working during their last check. However, interviews with the staff here make no mention of being alerted by smoke alarms. And what about sprinkler systems ? Ever hear of those ? Once again it just goes to show that living a life in Japan is nothing but a crap shoot ! You stroll down a sunday street in Akihabara and "thwack" ! some loon is slashing bystanders by the multitude. Or, you head into a variety store and "phoosh" the place goes up in smoke, like Don Quixote. This is just another example of the hate and despair out there on the mean streets of Japan. It is safe to say that Japan is leading the world in these "random attacks" ! What a horrible commentary on todays Japan.

Ichiro's teammates obviously have a reason to gripe. His 2008 batting stats, when compared to his career averages, were down across the board ! Everything from Runs, Hits, Doubles, Triples, Homeruns, RBI's, and worse yet his Batting Average were all off. Slap hitters at 34 years of age are pretty much worthless. Time for Ichiro to hit the weights, bulk up, and fine tune that homerun swing, or his days in the majors could be numbered.

Russia invades Georgia and the world "responds" with very visible, measurable, and understandable reactions. The world's major players are speaking and are ready to actually "do something" about Russias agressiveness. In contrast, the World remained absolutely silent when the USA invaded Iraq ! Plain as the nose on the boobug's face, the world absolutely agreed with Bush, and I'll bet you a ruble or two Bush has known this from day one. Sad bit of commentary for all you Bush haters.

Seems like London is already under seige. Western media reports indicate the chinese are upset at the way the Brits' Boris Johnson conducted himself at the closing ceremony. Gaffe #1, walking to the stage with left hand firmly implanted in left coat pocket. Gaffe #2, failing to button or close the suit jacket. Hey at least his fly wasn't open. Gaffe #3, grabbing the sacred Olympic flag in one hand and hoisting it about like a drunken wino !
I personally had no issues with the way the Mayor acted, typical british eccentric, a little off his rocker in an innocent kind of way. But the chinese have labled his behaviour rude and disrespectful. Looks like the show has just begun and the British have already stepped in it. Good luck London, you are going to need all the help you can get.

Pukey2:
"Yeah, USA won the bronze! Yippee. Look, Boobug, I'm happy for you and USA.ANOTHER bronze."
Pukey2 this is a perfect example of how winning the bronze is a major reason to celebrate. The Americans put together a bunch of kids to come over here and take on the professionals at the Olympics. And look what happened, they medaled ! After the game they gathered en masse around the pitchers mound, slapped backs and shook hands, real class ! In interviews they praised the Japanese for their efforts but most of all gushed with pride at what they had accomplished. Yes indeed pukey2 we Americans will relish this bronze, totally unexpected, and completely earned on the field of play. These kids took on Japan's best and whooped them good, end of story.

I've seen forensic researchers on the tele going on and on about how the facial structures, angles, and eye line gaps clearly indicate many of the chinese girls are no-where near 16 years of age, "absolutely impossible", they say. Again these are seasoned vets who dig up decomposing or partially mutilated bodies and determine ages through a variety of measurements. I tend to think they know what they're talking about.

This is nothing short of a shocking victory for the USA ! For a group of ragtag minor league calibre ball players to take the Bronze medal from Japan's seasoned professionals might just be up there with the "miracle on ice" ! OK, maybe not, but boy wasn't that fun to watch !
