Skeptical,
Hybrids run on gasoline. They generate electricity which can be used to run household appliances. According to the article, the Estima can run the household appliances for two days. I'm assuming this means they have to start the gas engine for an hour or so every two days to generate and store enough electricity. Maybe they can go shopping every two days to generate the electricity then let it sit in the driveway.
What electricity they are using is not from TEPCO's non-existent energy sources. Hybrids produce their own electricity, which is why any hybrids in the Tohoku area will be useful and, probably, welcomed.

It has and it can.
Will the Japanese consumer concede that Fukushima rice might be tainted with radiation, is the real question. I'm pretty sure some will say, never. Some will say, but it's better than rice from (foreign country). And some will say, No way I'm eating rice with radiation. I suspect the first group will be the largest.
But yes, of course rice will be affected. Why would it be exempt? Because it's Japanese rice?
Posted in: Beef, milk, tea, spinach and other vegetables have been contaminated due to the Fukushima nuclear crisis. How much worse do you think this is going to get? For example, do you think rice will be affected?

National Cancer Institute (http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/cellphones)
American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancercauses/othercarcinogens/athome/cellular-phones)
WHO (http://search.who.int/search?q=%22cell+phones+and+cancer%22&ie=utf8&site=defaultcollection&client=en&proxystylesheet=en&output=xmlno_dtd&oe=utf8)
So, yeah, in my former-Alaskan governor's heart, I 'know' they cause cancer. I agree with Farmboy: this isn't an opinion question.

How much money is needed to travel around Korea? Plus, with working holidays, young people can actually make money in places like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Or, like several generations of non-Japanese have done, walk, bicycle, EUrail pass around Europe for a summer.
If you really want to, you will find a way to get out.
I once went to a party and after a couple of hours people drifted off into groups. All the Japanese who had lived or travelled abroad sat in one group. All other Japanese in another. Foreigners who could speak Japanese were stared at by one group and accepted by the other. Guess which was which.
Posted in: My advice for young Japanese is simple: get out of Japan. One of our weaknesses as Japanese is our ineptness at communicating with other cultures. Even people who speak English well are closed off psychologically.

They need to eat their dark green veggies, beans, and potatoes. And seaweed. Shouldn't be that hard to find in Japan.

Using the dead woman's cash card is the least of Nagai's problems at the moment. Unless the police are scrapping for any reason to arrest him.

According to this guy, two of the problems are related to personnel: Poor service - Grumpy staff - and two are related to management: Delays and Unfair business practices.
Plus, an industry that is losing money cannot afford NOT to deliver a quality product - especially when that product is a People service. Planes are not dropping out of the sky due to bad maintenance but airlines are losing money because of their people (management & labor).
As others have noted, certain Asian airlines don't have the same problems. Could it be that Asian airlines realize who pays for the tickets? Hint: not management bonuses.

If she ignored a cop's warning, it probably means she had also tuned out the rest of the world. This cop could very well have saved her life. I've seen too many cyclists sail through red lights while texting or staring at their phones. I hope one doesn't run into my moving car someday, because I'll be the one royally screwed in that situation.

Yes, she was in a panic situation and confused, shocked, and bewildered. I have seen elderly people confused with how much money they needed at the register so being confused in a panic situation is understandable. An unfortunate accident that pretty much will impoverish the woman and her family.

She's married, she's quitting to be a full-time mom and home-maker. Like a few million other women in Japan. So what does this:
have to do with it? If her father was Japanese, would they say, "the daughter of a Japanese father and mother"? No. If her father was famous (Thor Heyerdahl, say) I could see adding the lineage, but it seems there is no purpose.

Five girls collapsing during the opening parade could, by an intelligent being, be taken as a hint that maybe the temperature is a tad high for outdoor athletics?
I bet all the parents who bothered to attend stood in the only shade, held handkerchiefs over their heads and moaned about the heat. As they watched their children collapse. Other parents probably didn't attend because it was too hot. At 10:00 AM

Osakadaz,
That is one scary pdf. I hope everyone realizes that in government 'temporary' means 'permanent.'
When an area of the world with 30 years experience with radioactive food (Belarus) is recommending NO MORE than 100 Bq/kg and Japan is allowing 2000 Bq/kg, I think it's time for celebrity vegetable sommeliers to shut the fruit up. It's also time for the citizens - the voters and taxpayers - to demand effective screening and controls based on science, not economics, politics, or bribery.

Mifune should check out the difference between tap water and mineral water.
If it is true mineral water - with extra salts and sulfurs appearing naturally - then it is going to be expensive. If it is modern mineral water, then she's using carbonated tap water. The extra carbon dioxide added to her tap water is ... beneficial?
Coca Cola's tap water is regulated by the same government agency that regulates our home tap water but Coke then adds the carbon dioxide. Cheaper? No. Better? No. Healthier? No. Contains Feel-Good factor? Yes.
