    The famous movie

I believe it was a famous novel (Dumas, 1844) before it became (several) movies - all famous.

I was wondering why a scad of police officers were standing at so many intersections yesterday. Mostly they were signalling drivers to stop when the light turned red and go when it turned green (or blue).

promised that Japan would disclose to the international community all information related to the accident in a swift and accurate manner.

    Two questions.

    1. Why did he (or the translation) include "to the international community"? Because in Japan 'the international community' implies 'not Japan' as Japan is unique and different from the rest of the world. Also, if the Japanese government hasn't disclosed all information in a swift and accurate manner to the people of Fukushima, why believe they will to the 'international community'?

    2. Will this be the first time the Japanese government discloses all information in a swift and accurate manner?

This is part of rebuilding the Japanese economy: build huge walls, employ hundreds, and keep the money flowing. Expect more walls around more sites in the near future. Just as they have concreted over most of the coastline, now they will be building walls around the country, too. (Except Okinawa; they always gets shafted.)

    Butteryfly123,

While I agree they should take their own government to task first, this is one method. Outside pressure - gaiatsu - is often more effective than internal protests. The Japanese government, above all else, doesn't want to look bad in front of the rest of the world. They'll screw over their own people as long as the outside world doesn't know or care. But as soon as the outside world (often only the US) gets wind of things like this, then wham, suddenly the Japanese government is concerned, too.

I'm especially pleased they mention that rather than deal with the problem, the Japanese government just upped the allowable dosage. I wonder if anyone outside of Japan knew they did this.

Of course they should check with the authorities in NK first. Then you will know. This is a dangerous precident. Many people may use Japan as a way to migrate

North Korea will of course say they are criminals - they left NK without permission. Then what? Send them back for execution? And if people are desperate enough to sail a flimsy boat in the open seas with a very good chance that NK gunboats could blow them out of the water at any moment, they deserve the death penalty? Japan Next! Indeed.

    Elbuda Mexicano,

I think this would stop a lot of scum bags here in Japan, the USA, the EU, maybe even in Mexico from doing horrible things to little innocent children

I suspect there are no pedophiles in Iran, then, after the first bunch was pushed off the mountain, given this logic. That the Prophet had sex with a nine-year-old might decrease pedophilia in Iran, too?

Also, I believe adultery is punishable by death only if you happen to be a woman, even if you were raped.

"The figure is up more than 3,300 on last year." if you take into account 3.11 the figure may be down not up.

That is assuming no 99-year-old outside of the Tohoku area had a birthday in the last year (and is still breathing).

There are many good reasons to travel to America - But I never once heard anyone list food as their reason for going there.

I have. They wanted to try a 'real' hamburger and 'real' pizza. They also wanted to try one of those gargantuan steaks Kansas City is so proud of. And, of course, take pictures of it.

But of my friends and relatives who have come to sightsee in Japan, Japanese food wasn't on their to-do list.

While radiation is probably keeping quite a few tourists away, the yen is probably keeping more away. Especially north Americans and Europeans.

I don't think it is just the budget that makes for bad quality TV drama in Japan. First, they need a good script but that script can be changed by anyone involved in the production plus their dog. And if the script is good but they want to use (current Jpop star), they might end up with a crappy drama because of the bad (nonexistent) acting. Plus, I've read that a lot of scripts are based on an idea some producer/agent had as a star vehicle for their (current Jpop star) or a manga they think will sell in Japan.

If a producer made a drama with an eye on exporting it to another country, I imagine it would be quite a mangle of what the producer thinks the foreign country wants to see - geisha, samurai, exotic Asians - and what he wants to show the world - brave, hardworking salarimen with sex lives.

I agree with hoserfella, I didn't hear any passengers screaming and pilots don't ignore traffic control. A successful take off in a bad storm.

And it has been a bad year for hockey and hockey fans - three in North America and now this. Condolences to any who knew the players, crew, or coaches.

I forget what it's called but the leg muscle basically turns into a small scrunched up ball - extremely painful. I've seen it happen to a couple of athletic friends of mine and there's almost nothing you can do except wait about 15 minutes for the muscle to relax.

why don't you manufacture those parts in JAPAN, so it creates jobs HERE instead of China. Haven't you got any sense of loyalty to your own country???

Toyota has loyalty to their shareholders, like all good companies. They want to increase their stock value and by moving to a lower labor cost country (and getting rare earth supplies), they are doing their job. Plus, until 2012, Toyota WILL and has been making those parts in Japan.

    Japanese jobs 4 Japanese workers

Interesting use of the number four; as that may well be how many Japanese jobs there will be for Japanese workers UNLESS Japanese companies begin switching to products that only Japan can manufacture or can manufacture better or cheaper than other countries. What could those products be (minus Hello Kitty crap)? I'm not sure.

It also announced its plan to disclose 40 pieces of previously unreleased evidence.

This is why the death penalty should not be used. The Prosecutors hid evidence from the defense and the judge so the defendant did NOT get a fair trial. This is extremely unethical... Wait, I'm talking about the Japanese justice system. Never mind.

Unless the citizens stand up and say stop your foolish internal bickering and squabbles, Japanese politics will continue to fail them and will continue to do best for politicians and their cronies.

Why don't they choose according to age (oldest first) and each can be prime minister for 10 months (the average). This will save time. Politicians will be able to concentrate on rebuilding the economy, Tohoku, and the strong yen and less time on exchanging bribes.... Oh, wait. Never mind.
