davidattokyo - could you elaborate a little on "scientific research is needed". Particularly what do think is a nominal number of animals to be killed in order to garner basic data relevant to understanding the species. Let's say for arguments sake, 20+ years of killing @ 700 animals / year…

But his b'day is a good day to question the relevance of royalty in this modern era.
All the energy & brouhaha of yesterday may well have been better spent servicing the ever growing soup kitchen lines.

As genial an old bloke as he is, and no doubt his wife also, there is little space in the real world for continuing royal fantasies both here and abroad.
The mumbo-jumbo of royalism belongs to the past and these blue-bloods should set about using their talents in a more…

Aso's comments simply show his background.
Privileged upbringing, doing & saying what he wants. He has continuously displayed an air of arrogance. He knows little of tact, humility and sense of the situation. His speaking his mind is NOT strength of character, but a masquerade. Any fool can mouth opinions…

And please give more details about the past brutal killings by such types from abroad.
All the heinous murders i read in japan on a now almost daily basis are by Japanese and worst of all they…

kinniku - "at least you knew where the man stood. This is the same for Aso"
I beg to differ. We know very little about what Aso thinks. He poses and postulates, flipping so easily to cover his stumbles.
Until now he has displayed a consistent "out of touch with…

Some of fish shops I've frequented wouldn't pass a health/hygiene inspection in many countries.
Some of the big supermarket chains - like Jusco in west japan - buy direct from contracted fishermen cutting out the middle guys and delivering a fresher cheaper product to the public.

USninjapan - could you elaborate a little on "all the good that is currently symbolized by them".
Whether you agree or not, all people in a true democracy have a right to express disapproval - esp with something holding as much political baggage as do the said flag & anthem.…

No doubt Misia is a fine person and wouldn't knock anyone who tries to make a change.
But I saw the programme on tv of her first visit(I guess) and singing Believe(I think) to the kids and just couldn't help think - like what the hell is this. I squirmed…
