Only in Japan do you get a Drug (alcohol) company showing how to prepare a fix on a CM with all the seductive trappings to render the act innocent.

    Kwatt - wrong!

Ag did not hit bigger vessel.

    Bigger vessel hit Ag.

Right or wrong don't matter - but surely the BIG boat HIT the little boat.

    Look and you will see.

As I've stated on these debates many times I couldn't give a toss either way re the Whale Hunters vs the Whale Protectors. No axes to grind.

BUT.......after watching ALL the videos available on the collision, there is no doubt as to the intent of the Maru - veer right and hit the AG.

Whether the AG should have been there and their own personal pursuits and whether the Maru has rights are beyond the pertinent point in this case.

DID or DID NOT the Maru intentionally steer into the AG?

Cute whales & Tradition aside - the Maru rammed the AG. I couldn't give a stuff, BUT that's what happened.

    LOOK at ALL the evidence.

Sydenham - Yep, too right. If you're a blubber boy then you'd best start stockpiling. Maybe you can get eco-points for a whale size freezer. Happy blubbering. Go Syd.

ihope2eatwhales - never end????? Ha, Ha. You'd better join blubber boy and stock up. Rest assured it'll be lean cuts 10 years from now.

And frankly I hope all whale eaters just keep on eating it in large amounts - 3 times a day or more. Get it into you. Gourge. Partake in the local culture. Don't be shy.

Commercial whaling on the scale of the Japanese programme will finish in the near future. The momemtum is struggling - literally gasping. As I've said on these threads before, personally I don't give a hoot what whalers want to do - they have to live their charade, but simply it's over.

Eating bear meat was more of a tradition in Japan than eating whale, but it finished even though the numbers of "rogue" bears increases.

I'll say it again - it's over, finito, kaput, done with, gone, passed on and it aint coming back. Get a handle on it. Move on.

Architrex - are you suggesting that if I'm not a royalist then why did I come to Japan?????? Now that's more than a lumpful with smiles. I'm an anti-royalist but I've visited/worked in England, Holland, Spain, Nepal(pre the royal demise) and Thailand. The fact that each of these countries has a monarchy ranks extremely low on my list of why not to go there.

And to further suggest that all should change their minds because of me - well you're really stretching the limits of word-mongering. More a reflection of your mindset methinks.

To believe as you seem to indicate, that all Japanese citizens are Royal lovers, is quite extra-ordinary. I know well 2 locals who believe deeply that the Emperor does not represent all that is good about Japan.

One, whose father died a miserable death in New Guinea in the war, sees the emperor as a symbol of wanton selfishness and destruction.

The other sees the emperor, amongst other things, as a link with the feudalistic and oppressive past - even to the point where she has complained to city officials for supporting Hina Doll festivals as a celebration of Past Imperial wrong doings.

Both people are respected community members, one a doctor the other a family court worker. Should they leave the country they were born into and love becasue they hold a view different to some?

If you read my original post carefully I said I hold no grudge against royal individuals, but blindly adhering to the past doesn't necessarily equate with right.

And yes you are right I can hold an honest opinion, but you are wrong if you think that in doing so diqualifies one from participating in a community.

You'd be better lifting your level of logic beyond the mundane.

    CONFORM TO THEIR CULTURE!!!!

Culture has nought to do with it. I am an anti-royalist across all cultures. Individually I bear no grudge, BUT the system that fantisizes about the specialness of people by birth or arranged marriage, warrants no sympathy from me.

The Privileged masquerading as commoners - now that's a laugh.

Oh, they are only a symbolic representation of all things good and cherishable in the county's past.

Or more likely they are used by those with agendas to preserve their own statuses and well-beings - to keep things as they are so as to speak.

    Get a real job.

I thought the Hong Kong game was a mis-match, but this game went to new heights of disparity.

The Togo A team after losing most of its players, sends a team that many amateur teams here would have dismissed. I've never seen a weaker international game.

But still the media crow. Why?

The state of her room is about as newsworthy as what brand of toilet swipe bill clinton uses.

Give us all a break and move as far away from this total non-newsstory as possible.

Obviously many here have never had the jaw-dropping experience of venturing into the abodes (esp. kitchens/dining)of the multitudes in Japan. Manicured, wonderful middle class folks with dog bowl messes.

Get off the Evil Sakai bandwagon and get a life.

    Killing Killers is questionable.

However, Torturing Killers for 10, 20, 30+ years and then Killing them, is surely a reflection on a seriously questionable society.

    Molenir - Indoctrinate?????????

Americans are indoctrinated in every aspect of their lives in every day of their lives by a multitude of vested interests - only most don't even realize it - yet.

He is not a teacher - phew!!!

A few huffs & puffs to the poor lil' ol' kids who-are-so-frail-and- sensitive-and-so-easily-mislead. Oh No!!!

Better spend your indoctrination cents on trying to convince young Americans to stop believing the war on terror lie and that'd certainly free up the education options.

I watched the address on tv.

Can so many Americans really be so sensitive(read weak)???

They object to govt. words at the proverbial drop.

All the while living a lie in the biggest theocracy on earth.

Object to that and you're a real red.

Mono - obviously not endeared to compact sports cars.

And Mazda certainly has this drop on this market, doing it with style, flair, reliability, drive and FUN.

No true motor fan would doubt this.

Seiharinokaze - you surely must have limited contact with the opinions of "locals".

Many of the locals I know here often comment on the incessant, disturbing shrills of cicadas. Riding past the univerisity grounds here is almost a"rite of passage", a test of survival as the ear drums are tested to their limit. I know of no-one who thinks otherwise although there maybe.

So to make a remark as blunt as yours to the effect that the poignancy of the cicadas cry being only understood by Japanese is quite an "achievement."

I welcome you to visit here - Shikoku - and experience the wonder 1st hand.

And from a clinical point of view re De menthe's statement- the suggestion that strongly vowel distinctive language users, use both left & right sides of the brain - as opposed to others being only left side users is so embarrassingly flawed. The intricacies of brain function in one swoop.

Cheney and his neo-con mates posed as great a threat to world security as did any terrorist organization.

The criminal pre-emptive attack on Iraq (and it's resulting death of 1,000's of innocent civilians) reflects the true nature of the neo-cons and it is surprising that troops were never deployed domestically "to secure the homeland."

I bet Cheney was spewing when Bush chomped the idea.

As great a place as Okinawa is, the claim of world's greatest longevity has long since passed on.

It doesn't even rank in the top group in Japan,

BUT it does rank as the leader in Child obesity in Japan.

Toshinobe - It's just an observation with comments, a generalization and I'm sure the author would acknowledge it as such.

    I didn't detect any profound barrow-pushing.

And most people would agree with your obvious point re meeting the locals to gain an understanding and insight into their culture.

But it doesn't change the fact that many people in Japan (and other countries) are extremely nearsighted in their convictions regarding other places & cultures. What could I say to my dear Japanese friend when she asked me last year if I thought it was a good idea to hold the family reunion dinner at a Chinese restaurant - you know the food issue & all of that. She finally decided to, and after the event told me she was so relieved because the chef was Japanese.

    Sheesh!
