I guess this is the flip side of "We'll be greeted with flowers". Is there no one that doesn't speak in hyperbole?

Don't forget that while the dollar figure looks high, as a percentage of the bailout (which AIG will eventually pay back) the bonuses are only a 0.09% of the bailout.
There seems to be more smoke than fire with this increasingly faux-issue. The Democrats are going to strangle themselves on this one if they are not careful (and they usually aren't).

This is beginning to go from stupid to dangerous.
People have to get it into their heads that the bailout to AIG is a loan which they intend to pay back. As stinky as they are, AIG did not come into its present form without political help on both sides.
Stalking individual AIG employees' homes will not make the stink go away.

And apparently it was of no value to the Bush administration either since they essentially left it on the back burner to go start another war.

smithinjapan I do not trust government when they go for populist sentiment to justify their actions. I did not trust Bush & Co. when they swayed public opinion towards their pet projects. I am not going to start with Obama. Like I said, it stinks no matter how many times you turn it over.

I agree with the Repubs on this - doesn't happen often.
While the bonuses is a big chunk of change, it is chump change compared to the billions AIG paid out to foreign entities and American companies that had already received a first bailout (double dipping as it were). The more I read about this stinking pile of financial doo-doo the more I agree with Sen. Shelby who wants to slow things does a bit, assess what is really going on, and then act.

Duh, the Democrats are in power. Before them it was the GOP spending the people's money.

Apparently common sense does not include freedom or democracy.

Fair enough.
Not much to disagree with you except to say that there is a lot of trash talk (as you know) and it is difficult to know the roses for all the thorns. If you want to criticize Obama, go ahead. Personally I want to wait a while longer, say 10-12 months, before I start pulling in the slack.
As for money and government, I have never seen a government (left or right) spend wisely and nor do I expect to. But I have to say that the worst administrators in my life time (looking at both America and my native Canada) have consistently been conservatives. When budgets have been balanced it has been mostly the non-conservatives. But mostly it is just a contest of who's sh*t doesn't stick as bad.
I think you expect too much and when everything is in the toilet you complain even more. Money, trillions of it, is going to either be spent or lost. That's the reality. Obama was never a messiah and he won't be able to stop the bleeding in a minute or a few months. A few months after that though we should expect to see results.

And skipthesong don't forget all that money lost and wasted in Iraq, all those no bid contracts, crates of money disappearing in Iraq ... or is it the nickel and dime stuff that gets your panties twisted? Pelosi may not be the purest senator, but she still has a responsibility to speak to the issues of the day.

Except for the ball to the head, a very good game to watch. Don't really want to see a Japan-Korea match up in the final so I will have to hold my nose and go with Venezuela. The US may get in and if they do a final with Venezuela would be worth watching.

Sarge, innocent people shouldn't be locked up in the first place. And why do you need to be told that in the first place.

That the Bush administration knew that they were imprisoning innocent men and did not care should be shocking as that goes against what America supposedly stands for. But you perhaps know better and America no longer values freedom.

No it wasn't. Weren't you paying attention? It was the selling of mortgages to people who normally would not qualify for them and the low teaser rate that was used to entice these people to buy. When the teaser rate expired the monthly mortgage bill went through the roof.
I would fully expect this administration to provide assistance that reflects the ability to pay. If not, then your question would be spot on.

Ah SuperLib, these were the guys that aided and abetted the swaps. Without AIG backing the banks would not have jumped in so deeply. These are not "some guys".

Some will want to say (and probably will say) that the Bush administration is in the past and that they kept America safe (except for 9/11 of course). But some things need to be addressed like how America could knowingly and willingly imprison innocent men. Freedom and democracy do not mean much if America is willing to hedge on those absolutely vital ideals.
Perhaps these crimes explain why Cheney is speaking out against Obama, to perpetuate the illusion that he did not do anything wrong.
