Too bad Bush & Co fail to protect America on 9/11 and then failed to focus on catching OBL by starting another war for whatever reason (I think they did because they thought they could, period). Yeah, Saddam was evil and so are a bunch of others that America will never bother with. And yeah, things eventually improve given enough time.

Taking mums name is low - they're doing it for the money.

How do you figure? Jun has two parents not one. Besides it was the mother who did all the heavy lifting after the father did his bit just before conception. Jun has as much right to her mother's name as she does to her father's.

As for the money quip .. it's called work.

It was amazing watching the Cubans unravel after that dropped fly ball, more so when you consider that Japan blanked them twice in four days.

American capitalism at work: a wonder to behold. This humungous Ponzi scheme is only not much different than the one the Soviets imposed on Russia. In the end the elites are taken care of by the sweat of the populous.

skipthesong Are you suggesting that all other problems have to be solved first before dealing with this wholesale theft of the treasury? And people wouldn't bring up Bush & Co so much if they would own up to their mistakes and their supports would stop making excuses on their behalf.

Yeah sure nominally it's an internationally organized gig, but most international sporting events are similarly organized but they all have a main sponsor/host. In that sense I call it America's tourney.

As for the Americans being "competitive", well its clear they are, even though they are not motivated or overly enthused.

Motivation, enthusiasm and results are included in being competitive - not potential, which is used before a tourney begins. Otherwise the failed Dream Teams would all be called competitive even though they under performed. Or the Canadian and US hockey teams at the Nagano Olympics. As a sports fan I expect the premier teams to deliver and the US team is one of those teams, injuries or no.

Obama caters to the gullible and the ignorant. He's been talking down the economy for two years,....

So the economy hasn't tanked and people still have their jobs and homes? Son, I think you are the one who is gullible and ignorant. Obama is not perfect, nor is he all powerful. His talking down the economy did not cause it to crash. If this were true then the US economy would not be worth a plug nickel.

Too many Liberals don't want to take responsibility for anything and periodically relapse into BDS (Bush-derangement syndrome) and forget that Bush isn't president anymore.

You Bushites love dicking around with time. You all proclaim that Bush kept America safe, except that he did not become president on 9/12/2001 (actually it began 8 months earlier, believe it or not). You all blame Obama for the piss poor economy as if he has been president for years (actually it was Bush, believe it or not). Now it is Afghanistan-Pakistan, as it he pulled resources from that region to go on a fishing expedition in Iraq (actually it was Bush, believe it or not).

Obama is not perfect and the world and economic situation he inherited may end up overwhelming his presidency, but it won't be for the lack of trying. The Bush Legacy is trying enough.

Well of course he would. To say any different would be to criticize what he did while in office.

Also, he is laying down political markers in the probable event that America is attacked again (this expectation was predicted even while Bush-Cheney ruled the roost). It is low hanging political fruit ready to be pick when something happens. Shrewd politics, but doesn't really help anyone outside his kool-aid drinking circle.

Sarge, while I think America will probably move away from the right (no surprise in that since the people voted for that), I doubt that the country will become another Europe or - dare I say it - a Canada. This hyperventilation over "socialism" is a but much.

Anyway, if socialism is so bad, then I suggest that the right stop screwing up so badly as to make the left the only alternative. Being in power is not just about politicking, it is also about governing. Simple really, but the GOP have yet to figure that out.

President Obama certainly sounds like a hypocrite, doesn't he?

No not really. Most people agreed with him six months ago. Now that the bottom has fallen out there is some expectation that the real economy will emerge and start rebuilding.

Sarge are you a Limbaugh who hopes the economy will fail completely just so you can get your ideological brownie points?

AIG political donations Money to Congress: 2008 Cycle to Democrat Party: $361,517 to Republican Party: $95,250

So? Everyone with any political sense knew that the election was the Dems to lose. Why would any company waste too many dollars on a losing cause?

Tell me that AIG had mainly donated to the Dems for the last 3 or so years, then that would be interesting. Otherwise, you're tilting at wind mills.

Russia is much more dangerous now than they ever have. Why? Because too many people think it isn't dangerous. I disagreed with McCain on many things, but he was right on Russia.

Actually I saw similarities between Bin Laden's words and the radical left on this board.

I am not surprised, the radical (or fundamentalist) left and right are two nuts in the same shell.

Bin Laden has become the modern face of Islam for those outside the cult.

The same can be said for Rush Limbaugh: the modern face of the GOP for those outside the cult.

The parallels between these two whack jobs are striking.

McCain said the same thing last year and he got toasted.

The key word here is "last year". A lot more is known now that was not known then. Obama is basically giving the message that despite all that has happened things are going to be OK. Besides Obama has been criticized for been too much doom and gloom and that it was affecting investor confidence. What McCain said last year is old news in a context long gone.

5 billion for the shakedown artists at ACORN

    rollonarts you are pathetically wrong.

    1) The stimulus bill is for 4 billion and change and is distributed to the whole country.

    2) ACORN is not even mentioned in the bill and "ACORN has denied that it is eligible for "neighborhood stabilization funds" and has stated that it does not intend to apply for them".
