I fail to see how allowing murderers to live, is civilized. When someone is uncivilized, allowing them to live, and potentially murder more people is if anything, uncivilized.

Well is executing an innocent man any more civilized? You cannot say a system is just if an innocent man is executed. Or the sentence is tilted toward the death penalty because the accused is black, poor, uneducated and so on. You fail to see because you don't want to.

Don't care for her music, but I respect her for her endurance in life. Most people would curl up and die if they had to live her life outside music.

This is more symbolic since, as blaze524 has pointed out, stem cells can now be made from skin. Bush and the Fanatics can be given some credit for this, except the Fanatics still want to play politics rather than highlight the new technology.

How is a tv personality different from a talento?

One has no personality and the other no talent... I guess.

VOR: Getting American troops out of Iraq has always been something Obama supported long before Bush's "game plan". He also advocated a responsible withdrawal in deep consultation with the Generals, which he has done and continues to do. Regardless of what Bush decided in the dying days of his tenure, Obama was always going to do what he is currently doing.

With foresenics becoming better and better, the odds of wrongfully convicting someone become less and less.

So what you are saying is that 1 or 5 or 10 wrongful convictions is better than 20. Sad to see that you value human life so poorly.

Regardless of whether forensics is improving, it costs tax money. Since tax revenue is a limited resource it cannot be argued that advanced forensics will be applied in every case that requires it.

VOR: The vote on the surge was when? There has been no recent about-face by Obama since he repeatedly said during his campaign that he would listen to the Generals. How in the world could he have gotten to be president if he did not clearly state his intention to listen to them? And the Generals seem very pleased that they have a president that listens and consults with them.

I am still amazed that there are still line ups for police recruits. It is kind of "fuq you" to the suicide bombers to continue to risk life and limb just to sign up to be a police officer to ... well ... risk life and limb.

My biggest problem with the death penalty is that it too often is motivated by politics, race, economics and other factors rather than by justice.

Yelnats: Unlike China, Japan, and most other nations the United States was founded on the idea of individual freedom so to execute an innocent person is a direct assault on one of the pillars of America - otherwise America is just another state.

sailwind you miss the point completely (perhaps willingly), talking openly and publicly about someone's death is extremely rude and low. Surely reasoned objections can be made by Rush and others without being insulting. As likeitis said basic decency is evidence of having principles. Even GW Bush, gaffs and malapropisms aside, did not speak like this.

But he is playing a very dangerous game that has no middle ground,

What astounds me is the economic health of America 8 years ago. Even with a recession coming Bush had room to make a number of choices, such was the strength and depth of the American economy. Of course the economy Obama inherited lacks the depth, breadth and strength of 8 years ago and therefore the choices he has to address the problems.

If the capitalists wannabes on this board don't like Obama's remedies, then they should have held their capitalist leaders to account. But they didn't because it was much easier to talk the talk and think it was the walk.

Well VOR, aside from the fact that Nixon and McCarthy were Republicans and Lenin not even American, Obama did not attack anyone. Nice try.

No one said he did not have the freedom to speak, only that it is low, very low to speak of someone's death. So spare me the false piety.

Conversely, would you argue that the president cannot speak well of someone? Last time I heard the president is still an American citizen and also has the freedom to speak. As do all Americans Dems, Repubs, and on down the line. Limbaugh speaks to provoke, that is his right, those offended also have the right to call him on it.

Nice sneer skipthesong but the courts have to legally make this determination in order to take away his individual rights i.e. lock him up indefinitely. If he was to be deemed criminally responsible, then the chances of him gaining freedom increases. No one in Canada wants him loose again.

With al these zombie banks, the AIG black hole, and GM on the brink of collapse there is some similarities between today's America with yesterdays Soviet Union.

Reagan wanted to bankrupt the Soviets in an arms race and apparently succeeded. Bin laden wanted to bankrupt America by goading it into extremes and is apparently succeeding.

If the current political situation in Russia is an indicator of what awaits, then let's hope Obama does succeed.

Trickle down economics is just another form of dependancy of the masses upon a perceived benevolent entity. From the perspective of most people money and power are in the hands of Others, the so-called capitalist idea of trickle down economics does nothing to free society, it is just a rearrangement of the deck chairs.
