I wonder if his over-reaction is latent guilt. Perhaps he doth protest a bit too much.

Was not that big of a story anywhere. The first I heard about it is this JT story talking about the Chinese not reporting it, but no one else is getting too excited by it either.

"Man bites dog" is a story. "Another man bites dog" is starting to get old.

Wow, 100s of thousands dead, millions in refuge in other countries, infrastructure blown to bits, economy sunk, society fractured ... basically Iraq is at or near rock bottom. This election is hardly a feather in Bush's cap, there really are not that many options left. Eventually wars end.

Also, what American leader would not want democracy in Iraq now that the country has been destroyed? Bush got away with a war based on lies. He and his supporters should be happy with that and give up on legacy talk.

Good childrearing behaviour? What the heck is that? I do not thing most parents exercise it, whatever it is.

Now you are saying that there is no universal standard even though you claimed that most parents do not exercise good childrearing.

Lack of abuse does not constitute good child rearing.

Huh? You just said that "good childrearing" wasn't a technical term that could be used in any meaningful way and now you are using it to help define abuse. Anyway, your statement is nonsense. Children do not grow up in a moral vacuum. If there is no abuse, then by most definitions of childrearing that would be a good living environment.

Of course, what constitutes abuse is also vague. Like good childrearing, it is easy to identify out in the extremes but much more difficult in around the middle. Is corporal punishment always wrong? Is a spank on the bottom different than a smack on the head? Are indulgent parents practising good childrearing? Does that answer change when that child becomes spoilt adult?

Again with the Mormons the authorities did not know the scope of the potential problems they were facing. After investigation the children were reunited with their families. How would have you proceeded given the unknowns they had and the scale of potential abuse involving so many people?

Isn't this the guy who said his failure to pay $34,000 in taxes was a careless mistake? I hope he doesn't make any more careless mistakes in this job, that could cost taxpayers way more than $34,000, in fact, it's looking more like $800 billon...

Did not hear you complain about Bush appointing political allies to positions they were not qualified for. I am not particularly impressed with Geithner and I hope the tax thing was just an oversight, but he is qualified for the position. So there is a better chance that this Obama appointee will fulfill his duties to the people of America better than any 10 of Bush's appointees.

First likeitis says that he doesn't know what good childrearing is but thinks most parents do not "exercise it". Then he proceeds to give a list of abusive behaviours that, I would imagine, constitute poor childrearing. But how would he know what is bad if he claims he does not know what is good? And how can he judge others whose responsibility (rightly or wrongly) is to make those decisions?

In the Mormon case what would likeitis recommend? Wait for the bruises, welts, broken bones etc. before acting on a tip? And how would anyone know the tip was bogus if they do not investigate? Does he support polygamy and under age brides?

For someone who claims not to know, he certainly is willing to spread his ignorance on issues he does not understand.

The only people that work in the Third World are the women.

And so who builds the roads, bridges, dams, buildings, power stations ... ?

They can call it what they want if it avoids the butchering of women in backroom abortions. Personally I do not like the idea of abortions but since I am a believer in democracy and freedom I have to accept that people will make decisions I do not agree with. Ultimately, it is the woman's right to decide.

Oh, I also disagree with this article calling "Joyce" shy. How could she be so if she was making children?

Sensei258 What a sexist and immature thing to say. Would be referring to your mother when you say that?

This looks like a case of parents being reckless (with the names) and pretty much calling for intervention. I do not agree in principle with the state taking kids away from parents - and certainly not in this case if the kids names are at issue - but some parent do the equivalent of putting a "Kick me" sign on their family by naming their kid after A.N., Hitler and Himmler. Most people do not want to be victims, this family makes it a career.

what is very shameful is capital gains taxes, taxes without representation, corporate taxes.

Do you want a hanky? Anyway, who is going to pay for the military that backstops American capitalism if corporate America does not pay? After all they benefit the most.

What's really shameful is giving taxpayers' money to failed Wall Street firms.

Apparently shameful is not part of Bush's moral calculus which may explain why there were no instructions on how this money was to be spent.

WOW a $275 B tax cut and the GOP are unhappy? I can understand differences over this item or that, but a wholesale rejection? I guess the GOP think that infrastructure is built by elves while they sleep.

Once again faux concern about civilian deaths by the left when there's some political mileage in it.

Yeah, look at the compassionate conservatives who just say "Kill the bastards, they're all terrorists anyway." No guilt, just blue skies all the way.

Nice boss to fire two wage earners from the same family knowing they had 5 kids to support. And then to suggest the guy to shoot himself.
