I would almost agree with Bush except for what happens on election day. Who gets to vote; how voting is done; the voting forms (paper or computer); how votes are counted (or not)...

What happens on election day is the most suspenseful day for all the wrong reasons. It does set an example, but not how to run a clean and transparent election. Perhaps the lessor democratic nations can do that like Canada, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Sweden ....

Yes "The theme was about attacking Pakistan in order to get OBL and AQ....." and McCain says that he knows how to do it. But he is not going to do it now, it can wait.

Sorry, but I don't buy that after all these years of Bush ignoring OBL. If everyone has to pay with blood and treasure this war of terrorism, then damn it the politicians better start doing instead of talking. McCain has a plan, then he should use his bipartisan influence and squeeze Bush's balls until he signs off on going after OBL. Otherwise it is just talk to get votes.

Obama said: "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority."

McCain said: "I'll get Osama bin Laden, my friends. I'll get him. I know how to get him. I'll get him no matter what. And I know how to do it."

Obama stated his policy and determination. McCain said that he knows how to get bin Laden, but has not done anything yet. National security is not above politics for McCain, same as Bush.

Nippon5, perhaps I did forget, but didn't he say that he would got after bin Laden? McCain said he knows how to get him - but he hasn't yet because he has an election to fight... so much for "country first".

Creapiest Moment was when McCain said that he knew how to take out bin Laden. So what is he waiting for? Oh yeah, to use bin Laden as a political tool just like Bush has done. Absolutely disgusting comment in an otherwise OK performance.

These debates have become part of the latest and perhaps greatest reality show. The amount of media and discussion around the world is off the scale.

Is this a death watch as America spirals in financial and political flames? Or is this a demonstration of how America can once again overcome its worst instincts and inspire us all?

So pull up your chair, get out your favourite snack, wake up your avatar and add your bit of flotsam to the jetsam.

Let's Go Future!!! What do you have in store for us all? That is the question on everyone's mind.

MrDickMorris seems to me that the more "successful" a person is in America the more they are apt to rely on cronyism, backroom deals and other shinanigans in order to stay ahead. I other words, those who claim to be successful are socialists in denial - that is, in need of others to give a helping hand. Why not drop the pretense and accept the fact the humans are social beings whose nature is to help each other out.

As for destroying America your GOP friends have already most of the damage.

Nippon5 "Only those who know they are sheep would assume that Im talking to them... "

I only commented I did not make that assumption.

"I never said those who differ from me, I said those who follow others without looking into the facts."

Actually you never said any of that, you may have inferred but you never said. I just took a stab at what you might of meant.

"Those who post statements based on proven lies from a political source are sheep. Sorry truth bothers some and irony would be if I followed a group and I dont..."

Agreed. Next time try reading all of what I wrote.

Sarge Why draw the line at health care? The kind of seems arbitrary.

Nippon5 The irony of calling others who differ from you "sheep" is that you sound like one yourself.

Anyway, I really do not care what the US health care system is called - and I do agree with you that neither offer a serious change - if "universal" and "socialized" are too much to handle then find different language. Nothing is going to change until the leaders on both sides believe it to be a national shame that 10s of millions are without adequate health care. As borscht said, the Japanese system might be a way to go.

"The US has also socialized its banking system"

Now ain't that a mind bender. After years of tuff love capitalism the capitalists run to socialism to save it.

But then again look at who is being saved: the monied people. With health care it is those without wealth that are left in the cold with the nation debates endlessly. Really pathetic.

Why a nation would hold 10s of millions of its citizens hostage when it comes to health care is beyond me. I understand the basic ideology behind rejecting universal healthcare, but is the cost in human lives worth it?

America after all has "socialized" security with its military and police, fire protection with its fire departments, transportation with its roads, sanitation with its water & sewage services ... what is so sacrosanct about health care that it cannot be included as a basic service provided by the state?

The answer, as usual, is money even though ideology is often stated. Too many hands in the till driving up costs and taking a cut. That millions suffer because of inadequate health care is just the cost of doing business.

There is probably no perfect solution, but surely America with all its money and brains can come up with a better solution.

Well a lot of great writers will be missed since only one living writer can be chosen in a year.

Saying that America is insular (both culturally and politically) is like picking low hanging fruit, particularly since 2001. But still there is indisputably a long list of great American writers that merit serious consideration for a Nobel Prize.

Thanks Nessie but let's not get distracted... the point is there are costs to be paid to getting stoned, but most users would be too selfish to notice let alone make the connection between these deaths and their use and abuse of drugs.

I wonder if the druggies in Canada & America will lay down their pipes, joints, needles and bongs and think of the cost - the externalities - of their "escape" from reality...

    ... didn't think so.

    Poor bastards.

Palin's aides forgot the change mantra of the McCain campaign. As it is they act like Bushies.

The Washington Post has a partial list of world leaders that Biden has met. The list is almost as long as the population of Palin's hometown. Clearly the GOP are desperate to window dress Palin as the rock star saviour of the GOP - but really it's just a fantasy.

“Your words have been very strong about Cambodia’s sovereign right and sovereign duty to protect your country, and the United States wants to help,” Nixon said about the incursions into Cambodia, which have caused a rift in U.S.-Cambodian relations.

And so RR has shown that he supports media bias when the media takes a conservative slant.

And that is what this story is about. I have been reading the Washington Post and they have been quite critical of McCain and scathing of Palin. But nary a word of protest from the McCain campaign.

The truth is that bashing the NYTimes is meant to rally supporters more than it is a deep concern about objectivity and neutrality in reporting.
