Got it - the GOP could just round up mobs of unemployed Americans and get them…
To be honest, get rid if Israel I see you agree with the Iranian leadership.

It is a bit precious for the McCain-Palin Inc. to accuse the Dems of sexism after Clinton fought tooth and nail to win the Dem ticket. To her credit she raised her game and helped to open the way for other women to go further. As it turns out the GOP were waiting in the wings ready to toss out a female after Clinton did all the hard work. Still, Palin is running for VP (and not Prez) which is apparently good enough.
Are all Republicans carpetbaggers? It is really hard to take them seriously. Sure, they talk all sonorous but their actions tell the lie.

It is called "externalities". It's the extra cost of doing business that is not accounted for. For example the health costs, lost productivity, etc associated with tobacco use. In the case of China's pollution, the globalized economy relies on China for its cheap labour in order to see goods at low prices. So, Terrikus et al, an argument can be made that American and other nation's (Japan, France, Germany, etc.) companies are direct and major contributors to China's pollution problems.
What? You think because you buy cheap items made in China you are not part of the problem? Externalities: we all pay one way or another.

Why was Gramm slammed for "telling it like it is?" Well I guess he should of qualified his remarks by showing some sympathy (feigned at least) for those who lost their homes, can't afford gas, lost health coverage ... I mean not everyone in America is whining over trifles (or wining over truffles for that matter). Only an out of touch elitist could utter such a remark and not understand how insensitive that sounds until it hits him in the face.

Did he mock Pvt Gray like he did Karla Faye Tucker?
For a compassionate conservative Bush sure gets serious about killing people through the death penalty, war, Katrina, poverty, etc. as long as he does not dirty his hands actually helping people.

The scandalous treatment of soldiers at Walter Reed reminds me that US politicians routinely use the wounded as photo-ops and then ignore them. Obama does not visit one hospital in Germany and his opponents grind it up for news - the wounded soldiers used once again for political fodder. They also ignore the fact that Obama did visit the wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq.

HelSkel, before you over exert yourself with excitement, this dip in the polls may be temporary as Americans turn out politics and tune in summer vacation. Besides, riding high in the polls all the time may be a worse situation as supporters may get complacent and not vote thinking everyone else will. Also the "Obama World Tour" may have been a calculated risk and was timed before the August convention as to minimize any negative effects of the trip.
There is too much real estate between now and November to get too excited about poll numbers. If this poll results continue into Sept., then perhaps we got a horse race - but not yet by a country mile.

Sarge, this whole war thing began with 9-11 and catching bin Laden "dead or alive".You don't think there is humiliation in not being able to catch him after 7 years?
I am still waiting for McCain (or you) to actually define what constitutes victory in Iraq beyond the GOP winning the White House (which seems to be the only measure of victory on offer).

Wow what a clever line. Did McCain think of that himself or did one of his advisors come up with that gem?
As for the surge, I recall thinking back then that it was a crap shoot. How many predictions of victory, success, adoring mobs, etc. turned out to be wrong. McCain did not "tell the truth", predictions are not truth-telling.

RR so when did smart planning become a fault? Obama's team has done its work. Why fault them? Because McCain's team thought a golf cart ride with Poppy Bush and a press conference in a German themed sausage haus would be effective?

For you Obama critics you can take comfort when Obama does become president and has to make those tough decisions many of his fair-weather friends will be shaking their fists rather than waving their hands.
Take a look at how some of his ardent supporter in America suddenly got weak in the knees when he did not follow script on gun control, wire tapping, and the death penalty.
Right now though Obama's world-wide support is heavily vested in him not being Bush. The fact that when he speaks his words are not an insult to one's intelligence is a welcomed change. This still does not mean there is substance, only that Bush has lowered America (and the English language) so low that style may trump substance.
As for McCain ... no style or substance to get excited over.

Zurg,
Granted the NYT does not represent the USA, but what media does? For all your yelling you seemed to be caught up in the deluded idea that there should be some representative media. So would Fox News pass muster? How about the Wall Street Journal? Or the Washington Post?
Who or what constitutes as being representative of America?

The best advertising to promote the radical left is the radical right. I have to laugh at both sides as they point fingers at each other as the source of their pain - of course they are both correct.
Where would the workers be if they did not have The Man to malign; and The Man would not be where his is if it were not for the constant threats the workers represent.

These numbers are meaningful only for fake bragging rights. Increase ticket prices and the number of screens and of course the money count will rise. How many people/screen actually saw the movie? Then there is a basis for comparison with other movies.

If the world is experiencing climate change - human caused or otherwise - is it prudent to continue practices which may speed up climate change?
Also, given that our societies are based on historical weather patterns and those patterns change, that does require a fundamental rethink of how we organize our societies and utilize technology. The head-in-the-sand attitude that focuses on the ideological (on both sides) rather than the practical is a waste of time.
Fact is many people, organisations, and companies are looking at the realities of climate change and making efforts to change, adapt and innovate. These three words are absent from Bush's thinking.

Superlib call it an excuse if you want, but you seem to take umbrage at the fact that European leaders have their own agenda and political realities that are not ties to America. Competent American leadership would have understood this and acted accordingly - Bush did not and now there is this mess.
Going into Iraq was a strategic blunder from the get-go. How in the world could Saddam pose such a military threat to the US when both the US and British air force controlled Iraqi air space and could bomb at will - and often did? To support the invasion of Iraq would have been politically foolish for most countries and they say that - even Canada with its forces in Afghanistan bulked at going into Iraq.
I understand your motivation to focus on European duplicity, but in the end Bush failed to make a credible case for invasion. Once that decision was made Bush basically made cooperation on Afghanistan that much more unlikely.

Well prague the reason that NATO countries do not want their soldiers dying in Afghanistan is, I believe, tied directly to their lack of confidence in the leadership of the American CinC, George W. Bush.
After 9-11 America had all the allies it needed and more. When Iraq became the focus the allies lost confidence in Bush and were not about to sacrifice blood and treasure on that misadventure. An effective leader inspires, Bush has done the opposite. It is his lack of leadership that is now putting Nato allies now in Afghanistan in peril. Why would German or any other country want to join now?

I don't think so. Doing an act of kindness would be a genuine act of class and decency.
Still, I do give her credit for owning up to her foolishness.

Superlib, is that a trick question?
Neocon are persons who takes no responsibility for their actions by blaming others. This is justified under the I'm-right-you're-wrong-end-of-discussion type of mentality (not unlike their leftist counterparts). Ideology trumps the rule of law to which they give obligatory lip service. As to the rule of law itself they seek to change it to reflect their ideological ends. As for the legal infrastructure they seek to undermine it and "drown it in a bathtub" (or something pleasant like that - see Steve Hadley). They will starts wars under false pretexts. And finally, they prefer to rule in secret so that they can escape oversight (because they are always right).

Superlib, haven't heard that, but doesn't matter really. I am assuming that this latest push by Bush is to further dismantle any regulator obstacles. The current argument being proffered is merely a straw man in order to advance a neocon policy that is anti-anything not in keeping with its political objectives.
