A lot of theatre but not much substance beyond two alpha males unwilling to respect the other. Happens everyday.

What a bunch of halabaloo. Everyone wants one up the other. "Stupid" is right.

“This continued attack on the CIA and our intelligence gathering organizations is undermining the morale and capacity of those organizations to gather intelligence,” said Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire.

And these types of comments provide political cover whenever the gov't wants to step over the line. If moral is so important, then perhaps the politicians should not act as if they are above the law.

"But you were attacked once" And that was just months after Bill Clinton left office

So are you going to lay blame on Poppa Bush for the 1st WTC attack which happens mere weeks into Clinton's first term? The Clinton haters don't want to do that, what do you do Sarge?

As for Cheney, there was actionable intel in August 2001 and nothing was done ("Who knew?" as Rice said). Maybe Clinton knew and let it happen so he could push through policies he knew wouldn't fly otherwise?

Ummm, Whitehawk, the "missing W" scandal was proven to be false years ago (like I said trashing Clinton regardless of merit), but here you are doing your hagiography of Bush even as you deny doing so.

There was an Aug. 2001 PDB that explicitly warned of a threat and yet Ms. Rice piped up months later asking, "Who knew?" If Clinton or Obama said that kind of BS had they been president at that time I would guess you'd crawl out of your skin in outrage. But Bush was president so you and your ilk work endlessly in establishing a sainted Uncle Bush legacy where good people never do wrong.

Clinton was not a perfect president (or human being) and neither is Obama. That is a given and not a concession. Bush, on the other hand, seems to require special care and not be expected to shoulder the heavy responsibility of owning up to the outcomes of his (in)actions.

Whitehawk, sure Obama has to take responsibility for his actions just like everybody should. However for Bush legacy propagandists this "no attacks on America since 9/11" is a very sad attempt at shielding Bush & Co. from responsibility for their inaction prior to 9/11.

Similarly, you are basically doing the same when you question why call it Bush's surveillance program. It is Bush's surveillance program because it was, among other things, a fig leaf to hide the fact that they ignored intelligence reports specifically stating an airplane strike. For all the criticism of the intelligence system prior to 9/11, it had gathered a lot of actionable data which was ignored for political reasons - the data came from a Clinton era team.

I remember the contempt the Bushies had for Clinton (who doesn't). Anything that had anything to do with the Clintons was trashed regardless of merit. And who could miss the foreboding from April 2001 onward that something bad was going to happen. When Sept. came around I thought that perhaps the crisis had passed ... tragically it hadn't. Ever since the Bush propaganda is to push away responsibility away (towards Clinton if at all possible and at every turn) and create a hagiography for Bush that will in time cloud the responsibility issue.

Yes, Obama needs to answer for his inaction, but it is still Bush's surveillance program.

Yeah Whitehawk let's do just that and scrub Bush's name from the things he had done. While we're at it, let's push the fantasy that Bush kept America safe making 9/11 magically go away. Blaming someone else is always fun (besides the Clintons seem to enjoy it). Sure Obama would like to carry more blame, since he's doing it anyway with the bailouts that pre-date his election. I think in a year or two everyone will think of Bush as a kind uncle sort of ex-prez and all the bad stuff will be associated with Obama and the Clintons.

Can you prove that hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died ( excluding the bad guys and people over 75 )?

Sarge, do you have evidence to the contrary? Please share. You know, millions of non-combatants were killed in WWII though some would deny that fact. The Iraq War has lasted longer than WWII and 100s of thousands does not seem an exaggeration.

When I read stories like this I wonder how many times we took stupid risks and were fortunate enough to live long enough to stop doing those stupid things. All they needed was one or two seconds more and they too would have been fortunate enough to get home.

    Sarge says,

And Senator Egan is a Democrat. Of course he's going to say Palin should apologize.

So Alaskans who are Democrats have no valid opinion about what their governor does? Kind of a pathetic democracy if you accept that all commentary is invalid if it comes from the other side.

Sad fact is that Palin is leaving her post early to seek a "higher calling" for no discernible good reason.

If Palin cannot handle the heat of politics while governor of Alaska, then I cannot really see her doing any better on a large stage.

Come again? Palin is bailing on her 1st term job so she can focus on a run for POTUS? The lust for power is more alluring than finishing her job.

OK, I get that America is a democracy and anyone can become president, but if the GOP insists on propping up almost anyone to be president, then perhaps America should lose the nukes. We don't need some American ayatollah from the radical Right in proximity to the big button.

socialism in America will not and cannot be like socialism elsewhere.

Then maybe it isn't socialism then. As far as I can tell, all it is is the-GOP-talking-points-for votes-country-be-damnedism. Obama sneezes and the GOP will try to find a political angle on it.

Yeah, I know America is special but you can't hide behind empty ideas by trying to redefine the argument everytime someone challenges you. You rightists criticize at every turn and reject every overture - may as well move to Iran. America is just an excuse to play politics (the same goes for the left-wing nuts).

Actually, there isn't. It's fairly obvious that Obama's just winging it.

Well, duh! Events are unfolding as we write. You say he's winging it, I say he is obviously responding to an unfolding crisis and recalibrating his initial stance.

Should he just send in the troops? Get mouthy? There are a not a lot of options right now. Unless you are hungry for more war...

His admission that he found it OK to share his bed with children really creeped me out ... kind of like smoke and fire.

Conservative is not an argument, it may have been at one time and certainly not on these boards. Now it is a shout with a handful of insinuations, veiled threats, and an inability to actually accomplish their stated goals.

And yes, "BOO!" America is not going socialist anytime soon. It is just the GOP in search of a purpose.

An argument? sorry, not in the real world.

So predictable. Obama's gonna learn the lesson that when you reach out to Islamic nations, you get bit. At least I hope he'll figure it out.

Or he could be setting the stage. Clearly he is different than Bush, why would he take on his mantle? Obama seems have provided Iran with a room and a rope to clarify in which direction they will go. Don't forget that not everyone in Iran supports the mullahs so it would be of strategic interest to signal America's larger intent if circumstances warrant it. Obviously they don't and Iran has taken this opportunity to place the rope around their own neck. Everyone in the world sees that.

Obama does not have to do very much at all. World opinion is moving away from Iran and it is more difficult for their allies to argue in their favour. Iran is isolating itself. By staying arms length away, Obama is placing America in a better position if a more robust response in required. Of course there are no guarantees, but there is method to the WH response to Iran.
