A June 2007 report released by the American Society of Civil Engineers states that the failures of the FEDERALLY built levees in New Orleans were found to be primarily the result of system design flaws. On May 2, 2008, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal used a speech to The National Press Club to request that President Bush free up money to complete work on Louisiana's levees. Bush promised to include the levee funding in his 2009 budget, but rejected the idea of including the funding in a war bill, which would pass sooner. The war in Iraq has cost American taxpayers somewhere in the region of $2.7 trillion.

If one wants to get a real understanding of the horrors of Katrina, then I suggest you watch Spike Lee's movie: When The Levees Broke. Spike Lee is an American movie maker and does not work for the BBC.

I hope Bush managed to say a few prayers for the thousands of innocent men, women and children who have been murdered in Iraq by his Christian army.

Cynicism aside, it is at least it's a step in the right direction. Food safety should be a concern to everyone. Also, some energy might be saved on the fuel needed to import foodstuff from outside Japan.

Yes, I think the Chinese Olympics will be a success. Why shouldn't they be? Runners will run. Jumpers will jump. Records will be broken. Flags will be flown. There may be the odd hiccup, which no doubt the foreign media will blow-up out of all proportion. Let the games begin!

Stabbing people at random is just another form of mental instability. The stabbers are people who are desperately seeking help and attention. It just so happens that they are using knives to get their message across. They should have received help long before they carried out their desperate acts. Someone, surely, must have known the mental condition, frame of mind of the perpetrators. Perhaps too many people have iPods and iPhones plugged into their brains to take any notice of what is happening in the real world.

It's obvious that Princess Masako is desperately unhappy because she has not been able to adjust to the suffocating life of a Japanese princess. The only cure is for her to leave her environment. Adjustment disorder (athealth.com): The conditions associated with adjustment disorder develop within three months of the beginning of the stressful problem. An adjustment disorder usually lasts no longer than three to six months. The condition may persist, however, if an individual is suffering from chronic stress such as that caused by an illness, a difficult relationship, or worsening financial problems.

It is probably important because she, the French President's wife, is a pin-up artist and appeared in various publications in the nude. What other head of state had a wife like that? It says much for the present head of France. Viva La France!

$650 billion since the war started. War-torn Iraq is emerging as a key conduit in the global drugs trade as criminal gangs exploit its porous border with Iran to channel their illicit goods to the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Fadhil Chalabi, one of the primary Iraqi advisers to the Bush administration in the lead-up to the invasion, recently described the war as "a strategic move on the part of the United States of America and the UK to have a military presence in the Gulf in order to secure [oil] supplies in the future". Chalabi, who served as Iraq's oil undersecretary of state and met with the oil majors before the invasion, described this as "a primary objective".

I've never really understood how anyone can classify what's going on in Iraq as a war. It is basically a sectarian conflict between various groups, including Sunnis, Kurds and a group which the software on this message board bans me from spelling. If the coilition forces pulled out tomorrow, then one would see the real conflict. Not a war on terror. Not a hunt for weapons of mass destruction. A full blown, internal, sectarian conflict unleashed by western powers. One thing is for certain, as long as the western powers have an oil interest and a military presence in that region (propping up some very dodgy undemocratic regimes) then they will a target of interest. I think Obama will be no different from many other presidents. He will toe the line. He will follow Judeo, Christian belief which is in direct conflict with the middle east region and supported by Israel.

When Miss Alabama was asked in the 1994 Miss USA contest 'If you could live forever, would you and why? Her answer was the following: 'I would not live forever, because we shound not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever.'

After the second world war Japan had to separate religion and politics on the orders of the American occupiers. The Emperor was no longer to be regarded as a devine, spiritual leader of the nation. It goes without saying that a man or woman cannot become president of the United States unless he or she professes their belief in Jesus Christ. God bless America, as long as it's their God running the show.
