Hate to say it smith, but as a republican supporter you are probably right. Gerrymandering and turning out voters will help the extremists of either party win primaries but, often, those candidates are losers in the general election. The Tea Party, by rejecting any incumbent and supporting some outright loonies, is setting the general republican party up for a less effective general election. I guess we'll see what happens in November. Can the voters stay angry that long? Will enough centrists get out to vote? Time will tell.

I think it's pretty well accepted that Israel has nukes but it's Iran who is blustering about the destruction of Israel. It seems that Iran's president is playing to a captive audience - e.g. thier own citizens - to try to keep them in check.
Sabi, by your logic the UN should reinstitute the Roman Empire? Or perhaps the Ottoman Turks? There have been so many countries that have laid claim to the area that there is no way to sort it out. It would be better if everybody could share a bit rather than re-hashing centuries old grudges.

You have to wonder what kind of ego Ozawa has; and how firm his grip on reality is, to try this type of stunt. The public will punish the DPJ if Ozawa becomes PM. There's no fool like an old fool.

Funny, she was born in the year I first came to Japan. Does this prove I'm getting old?
BTW, the coffee is typically better in Japan. Don't ask me why; I have no idea.

Could I have some compassion please?
This is really too much. I don't know how sick this guy really is but it sounds like the government is paying him and his family quite handsomly for his ill deeds.

The complementary bottle of Ballentine's at the Tokyo Hilton was always nice; but that was back before the economy tanked. There are plenty of good Japanese whiskys out there. Sake is quite nice too. I'm surprised that Japanese whisky is being imported to the US. I wonder if I'll see any on the shelves in Rochester. The article made the local paper....

I don't see why he should go out of his was to make the trip. I wouldn't expect him to go to Yasukuni either. I guess it depends on what type of political message he wants to send. If he did go to Hiroshima and then said pointed things about nuclear proliferation to unsavory regimes that might strike a good balance that even most right wingers would have to agree with.

Money will twist the best and take the worst to extremes that we can't imagine. But why anybody would certify Mugabe's thugs "mining" as legitimate is beyond me. Seems that the Kimberly process says that if it's the government doing the killing then the diamonds are OK. That's nuts.

Let Hugo have his little tiff, it will give him something to rant about in Sunday's show. Notice that the trade between the two countries hasn't been turned off. Hugo hasn't quite lost all his senses.

I imagine the US is jawing at China but China isn't listening. Much better to have lil Kim as the bad boy in the region. That way China can get away with more itself.

Guns don't usually go off "accidentally" so the fool is lucky he wasn't looking down the barrel when he pulled the trigger.
"Automatic," when referring to a pistol, usually means a semi-automatic in function. One shot for one trigger pull, with the action automatically chambering a new round. There were very few fully automatic (fires as long as the trigger is held back or until the ammo is depleted) pistols made.
Lucky nobody was hurt.

All the original (but not too outrageous) stuff has been done before. Plus Hollywood needs profits - best to stick to tried-and-true formulas and not take risks.
Posted in: Hollywood is bombarding us this summer with lots of sequels and remakes, such as "Iron Man 2," "Sex and the City 2," "Toy Story 3," "Shrek 4," and "The Karate Kid," among others. Whatever happened to creativity and originality in films?
