This seems to be a clear case of form over function. There is no reason to make the camera larger than is has to be just to be "cute!"

Of course they said that. They didn't want to be caned again, did they?

What I find ironic about this is that the feminist groups are not out boycotting goods made in Islamic countries, especially Saudi and Malaysia. I guess the need to drive one's SUV trumps sisterhood.

Don't worry though. Any culture that tosses out half it's intellectual capacity is doomed to failure. Once we have alternate energy in place the backwards countries will go back to being backwaters too.

There is no way to justify the guys actions but anger at the IRS is no surprise either. The IRS becomes little more than legal loan sharking if you can't pay your taxes for whatever reason. Then they'll set up a system where you are making the monthly payments they demand only to find out that the monthly payment isn't enough to cover the extortionate penalties and interest they charge - and don't send you information of on the bill. It's a treadmill that puts credit card companies to shame and makes the Mafia jealous....

When you put together the parts of the puzzle that the government bails out the wealthy while screwing the guy who just lost his job I'd be surprised if anybody likes the IRS.

But this guy, he had more problems than the IRS.

One other thing - how is the congresscritter mentioned going to "how to better protect buildings from attacks with planes?" If there is one thing that bombing campaigns showed during WWII it's almost impossible to stop an airplane short of shooting it down. Are all buildings going to be equipped with SAMs now? The mind boggles.

Sounds like attempted murder to me. Just awful, trying to recover from serious burns. The poor guy is going to have months of pain. I'm not sure there is a punishment that suits such a horrific crime.

Did we all know that he was drunk as soon as we read the title? How many beers had he got through? E.g. was she a six beer woman? Ten beers? I kinda doubt ichiban....

It's truly sad that broken marriages come to this. We should all go into marriage with a full understanding of the possible consequences. Many do but you don't marry expecting to end up divorced. Still, so many people get married a second or third time. The triumph of hope over experience?

When you look at the arrangement of the "typical" Japanese family it's easy to see that the law is imitating life. The husband is supposed to bring home the veggies (right Cleo?) and the wife is supposed to do everything with raising the kids from discipline to cram school to everything else. The law is simply codifying this in the case of divorce.

If you're going to change this law you're going to have to change Japanese culture. Or perhaps the culture will change if the law forces it? I rather doubt the latter. The J-wife will have the support of the family and neighbors. I think a change to the visitation laws will be difficult to enforce at best.

Hobby, by COLREGS both vessels have a responsiblity to keep clear and try to avoid a collision. Stopping one vessel in front of another is in violation of COLREGS. Cap'n crunch had no business stopping in front of ship and expecting the ship to be able to stop or turn in time.

Actually there has been speculation that it WAS a business decision as Bethune was "under water" in terms of paying for the AG and thus scuttling her and making it look like an attack by the Japanese helped him out financially. Sort of like burning your failing business for the insurance money.

In the meantime cap'n crunch has boarded a vessel without permission and is now prisoner of that vessel's captain. All very legal. I hope he likes Japanese prison food.

I hope they put trick candles on the dear lil pipsquesk's cake. Then he'll have a stroke trying to blow them out about a dozen times.

In the morning the papers will read how the wanker blew them out with one puff but that the yankee imperialist curtains caught fire when the hurricane force winds of the dear leader's will caused the flames to cross the mile-wide room. All while he was getting 17 holes-in-one.

Of course the papers won't mention the flashback caused by the alcohol-sodden vapors in the same breath that caught the hair spray on fire resulting in an inferno that caused the whole building to burn....

Looks more like a funeral wake then a birthday celebration

    Well, we can all dream.

I hope the Japanese understand that a little grandstanding by one congresscritter amounts to exactly diddly squat. Then again, they should be used to political hypocracy being hip deep. Nothing like a politician in front of a camera for comic relief - until you realize these guys are actually trying to run a country.

"The country is in no greater peril than when congress is in session." -Mark Twain

    Somebody translate that please....

their legal responsibility to bring crew of the sunken ship to land.

You better brush up on your COLREGS. All vessels have a burden to render assistance in an emergency. But the emergency regarding the sinking was over weeks ago. Cap'n crunch's boarding the Japanese ship does not constitue an emergency. Also, mr wailer cap'n crunch has no authority to direct the vessel to any given port even if he was picked up in an emergency. The crew rescued from a sinking vessel has the right to accompany the rescuing ship to the port that the ship is going to; or they can make arrangements to be picked up. At their expense. The rescuing vessel has no responsibility other than to get them out of the sea and to shore somewhere. Also, since Cap'n crunch boarded the ship without permission he is now, legally, the prisoner of the captain of the ship he boarded.

On the topic of the butyric acid: the stuff is non-toxic. That is, you can eat it and be OK. But it is a skin and eye irritant and the Material Safety Data Sheet is quite clear about that.

What is amusing is how long it took the SS to come up with their drivel about how the Japanese crew "injured themselves." The SS really are pathetic, IMHO.

On one hand the tobacco companies did what they could to make cigarettes more addictive. On the other the smokers were warned time and time again that smoking is a bad idea. While I think that the tobacco companies should pay a bundle into a government pool to help treat the illnesses tobacco causes I think that individual responsibility means that the individual smokers don't deserve a dime of cash compensation. Got lung cancer? You're hospital stay is paid for by Japan Tobacco. Want to buy a new car? You're on your own.

Hiring Cheney to be V.P. was the biggest blunder of Bush's presidency....

Yeah but daddy needed somebody he could trust to keep junior from fiddling with the football.

prove Cheney's complicity in the attacks...

Yeah, right. And Cheney helped sink the Titanic too. Honestly, if you're going to spout that kind of drivel would you please provide a link to the incriminating testimony?

My biggest disappointment with Obama is that, by and large, his antiterrorism policies have just been a version of "Bush lite." I don't see why Cheney is arguing about it. It would seem that Cheney just can't stand being out of the public eye. So I have a suggestion: go to Britain and testify, Dick. You can have all the time you want to try to explain why torture and suspension of rights is justifiable. Maybe Obama will realize that he ought to make a clean break with the Bush policies.

I blame the parents. Seriously. What jerks are they to subject their 7 y/o daughter to that kind of pressure? It's not like they didn't know how the parade goes. I hope they enjoy all the attention they are getting. It's obvious their daughter doesn't.

waaay back when the company I was working for wanted to start having everybody (execept execs, of course) flying cattle class on the Chicago - Narita run. My boss, bless him, was about 6'5" (call it 2m) and told them "that's fine, then we won't make the trip." Solved that problem.

I am fine with the "pay as you go" system. Weigh you and your bags at the counter, here's your surcharge. That won't interfere with advanced reservations. You can enter your weight at the time of ticket purchase but if you lie your surcharge doubles.

gotta love it northlondon, you're always quick with a conspiracy theory...

British and the American secret service craftily left the gate open for the Argentinians to invade and knew all about their invasion plans.

Proof, please. Got a inquiry? A link to a peer reviewed paper? Or is this just more pablum that you've scraped off the curb?

Yep, the Kirchner's have ruined the Argentine economy so it's time to divert attention from their failing. Start a fuss over the Falklands -again. Gordon Brown could use a diversion himself, I expect the Royal Navy will be leaving port next week. Maybe Labor can win a snap election right after a few Argentine ships hit the bottom.

    Idiots!
