Yuri, the judge felt there was enough evidence to hold the guy without bail. That's not only because he's a flight risk, it means the evidence the prosecution has presented is substantial and credible. I doubt the maid was a set up; I also doubt she is looking for a payoff to drop the charges.
But DSK is lucky. In France he would be guilty until proven innocent.
Whatever shame he is feeling he has brought on himself.
How is any of this related to DSK's nationality?

Ironically, if the jerk had been in France (and a woman had pressed charges)then French jurisprudence is guilty until proven innocent. Since he got caught in the USA he is innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately for him there is, apparently, blood from the assault involved. In the US that would be considered evidence that the victim fought back. The fact that they arrested the guy on a plane trying to leave the country didn't help either. He may be getting special treatment at Rikers - wouldn't want the rapist to be raped, would we - but he's got a big mess on his hands and I'm starting to doubt that he's going to get away with it.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out because of the high profile and the other women coming forward. Perhaps might doesn't make right.

Tepco's plan was, unfortunatley, flawed. This mayor may not have had a vision that we all agree with, but he had a vision. And it worked. I guess I'm not sure why everybody wants to argue with success.

Gingrich. Ugh. The guy was a disaster in the 90's Now we get a second helping? No thanks.

Suicide? OK, I haven't seen the police report but from this write-up I have to wonder about murder. It's a tragedy in any case.

I've got my FB privacy settings set about as tight as they can be and still have an account. What FB does with personal information is not something that you want out in identity theft land. Google isn't exactly as pure as the driven snow - "don't be evil" has been overtaken by lust for profit.
Bottom line is that, on the web, you can't put too much of your real self out there without asking to become a victim. And, of course, understand that on the web the other person you are talking to is following that advice. You're not seeing the whole person.
Kinda creepy, eh?

Yeah RR, really. I know al Qaida wants revenge but if they are out to get revenge on the USA they seem to have picked the wrong target. Seems, to me, that they are just trying to justify murder - again.

Boo hoo hoo. Osama had it coming. It was authorized by congress. Obama made the right choice to send in troops rather than cruise missiles. Now Osama sleeps with the fishes. Good riddance.

Justice was done but I don't see bin Laden being dead as changing much else. Well, maybe fundraising for terrorists will be harder with bin Laden's money off the table. Maybe the west will get the idea that Pakistan isn't exactly reliable. But a game changer? About as well thought out as "mission accomplished."

The cynic would say that Obama has a huge war chest because politics is corrupt by nature. But, of course, living in Japan has cured my cynicism. At the same time, I haven't seen a decent Republican candidate yet. That's usually a sign that the good ones feel that the incumbent is unbeatable. Or that there aren't any good ones. (had to throw that in for sushisake, just for fun)

yeah, it's nice to know who your friends are. The sooner we wrap things up and get out the better. I'm not saying to cut and run, but it would be nice to not have to pay off Pakistan any longer. Let them rot while the extremists kill people. The next (and last) raid in Pakistan should be to take out their nukes.
