I can't agree to banning one religion's buildings while the others are still standing. Perhaps the Swiss should have banned amplified "calls to prayer" as a disturbance of the peace. But they've done what they've done and what it seems to say is that the fear of the violence and culture associated with Islam is unacceptable to the Swiss and they won't allow the symbols of such a repugnant culture to be displayed.

This isn't all that different than the banning of Nazi symbols in Germany, really. Just that a mosque is involved in religion, not politics.

But a snub at a culture that treats women as chattel and violently represses them, that condemns dissidents within the "faith" to death, etc., etc. is reasonable. There is no place for the "wahabi" version of Islam in modern society.

One could argue that the "modern Muslims" don't act that way. True. But the problem is that they don't condemn the behaviour of the radicals at every turn either. There is no schism in Islam. The teachings aren't challenged, they are just ignored. Silence become acquescence.

Unless western women want to start behaving like muslim women and we want all of society to become a backward joke this is one kulturekampf that has to be won by the west. The Danes fired the first shot with the cartoons of mohammud. The French are fighting back too. Nice to see that the Swiss have joined the cause. Reject islam and it's culture of repression. Or lose your freedom. It's that simple.

I don't have a lot of problems with the things consenting adults get up to but this is just sick. I doubt there is any way to positively reform such predators. Life in prison is one solution.

It's rather repulsive how you guys have turned this tragedy into an political screed. Get back on topic.

I think the Russians will be a little more deliberate in their response. But I expect there will be a response and it won't be pleasant.

    Yeah, crazy world.

health care being fought tooth and nail by the republicans...

Wow, that is a daydream. The democrats control the presidency and BOTH houses of congress and they still can't get a bill through. That's not the republicans fighting, that's a total lack of leadership. The same reason why it's taken months to decide what to do about Afghanistan. Or close Gitmo. Sheesh!

What I have seen is far too many "MBAs" who think they can manage a technology development group without any understanding of the technology just because they know management techniques. Inevitably the MBA looses actual control of the project when some techie botches a job and it isn't found out.

Too many MBAs are taught that they can manage any situation just because they know six sigma or PDP or something. That's not the case in many jobs.

All show, little substance. Sounds painfully familiar.

Obama at least understands that appeasing corrupt leaders does not get you far.

So far Obama has had a wonderful time with Chavez and bowed to that Saudi dictator "king" who doesn't even let women drive cars, let alone vote. He willingly goes into a Chinese "town meeting" where the attendees are hand picked to parrot the govenment. Obama isn't appeasing corrupt leaders, he's kissing every butt he can find.

In the meantime the idea that the problem of Afganistan is going to be solved in four years is really short sighted and displays a poor understanding of history.

I think this is a fair assessment of the situation. From the "if you disagree with us you must be an uneducated right wing nut job" to the inability to understand that there are instances where an intellectual analysis is going to miss something the Obama team has just been bouncing from one faux pas to another. OK, maybe they haven't invaded Iran or done something really stupid ala Bush, but that's not saying much, is it? There is a lack of leadership in this administration that is really amazing given all the rhetoric from the campaign. Even the press in the US is starting to report on it. After a while over analysis becomes simple paralysis.

I do like the analysis of Wilson in comparison. That might be an even better thought than comparing Obama to Carter. The amazing thing is that the Democratic party is almost rudderless. How many health care plans haver their been so far? And a different Democratic pretender to the throne has slapped their name on each of them.

Time for Obama to step up and prove his mettle. Just freaking close Gitmo, for starters. Do something other than dither.

Yelnats, if she told him to go away it's harassment. Glad to see the cops got one nut job before he committed murder. Hope they keep him in the psych ward for a while. Especially since the victim has no means of self defense.

I can't imagine why you need an MBA unless you need to know certain finanacial processes. Like how to wreck the banking system. They are worse than useless in technology fields.

    "jury of his peers"

Yeah, the first thing they will have to do is change the venue or pull the jury from the mentally insane....

I relish the thought of letting those vile lunatics "express their views." Then they'll be shown up as the bigoted religious fanatic murdering scum that they are. Unless the government is totally incompetent in it's prosecution....

Hmmmm, wait a minute while I ponder that. Maybe we're in trouble here.

I'm, like, really hoping that the last two comments were just attempts to stir the pot, right? I mean, why would you build a uranium enrichment plant in a mountain if you didn't want to use it for making weapons grade material? And why the heck would anybody want to attack Venuezuela?

BTW, nobody is pushing a war in Iran or Venezuela execpt the despots who rule those countries. Seems to be a good way to deflect criticism.

It's got to be "A Boy and His Dog" written by Harlan Ellison and brought to the screen by LQ Jones. Featuring a pre-Miama Vice Don Johnson.

Don't forget Planet of the Apes either. But not as good.

Sony is ALWAYS looking for "brand loyalty" by creating proprietary devices and now, data feeds. Betamax, memory sticks, whatever. I avoid anything where I'm locked into one vendor.

It's called freedom of speech. No religious prig is going to tell me what I can or can not say, write or draw. Same for the university snobs and the political hyprocrites.

"I find the very tenets of Islam to be extremely offensive. But, in light of as much good it would do the world, I still don't call for its eradication.

I, like any rational person, just insist that Muslims understand - and respect - that their religion is ridiculous and offensive to many and, as it is, has no place in an enlightened society."

Very well said. I'll agree wholeheartedly and defend your right to say so.

Yep. Move out and let China figure out what to do. Why stay somewhere that you're not wanted? If the economy on Okinawa does suffer at least they won't have to put up with all that noise and disruption any more. Japan always considered Okinawa a backwater anyway. May as well go back to being one!
