The US could probably save a lot of money by giving up on bases in Japan. We could just let the Chinese patrol the waters of SE Asia. We could even conduct joint exercises to be sure there weren't any accidents. No problems.

The Afghans have never wanted a strong central government. The only reason the Taliban were able to accomplish anything was because they were so brutal that nobody dared object. The Brits and Russians both failed by trying to set up strong central governments. If the US continues down this path…
