@Love, her thin upper lip is another beauty ;)

Eye of the beholder...She is very pretty but not because she has thin lips. Wish they were fuller.

What is she holding? A platinum giraffe?

KSB1978 at 10:57 AM JST - 1st November Most fridges I know will give food longer life than if it was left outside. I thought that was the basic function of fridges :S

I agree with you that fridges are supposed to give food longer life.

Maybe the article is meant to be, "Fridge gives food longer life compared to other fridges".

Looks like its just an advertisement for Sharp's new refrigerator. The article's title really makes one ask. "So what?"

"Sun is hot" more on the 11:00 news.

Nessie at 12:10 PM JST - 18th October The answer is yes; the question is whether they are an acceptable invasion of privacy.

Well said, Nessie. You have the correct answer.

I'm surprised the votes are so close on this question. Would the folks who voted "no" really like to live under a non-democratic government?

Democracies are slow to change because the will (interest) of the people need to be accounted for but I'd rather that than a dictator. Even a benign one, sorry smartacus, lol.

PleasureGelf, I was about to write the difference between a republic and democracy but you beat me to it. Thx for posting that. I think some folks were not clear on the difference.

You're clearly out of your depth on this subject. Millions of Americans of various skin shades get along with one another perfectly fine every day. While vocal racists hiding behind the shield of anonymity may seem numerous, the truth is they represent but a fraction of the entire population of the U.S. The proof is in the very fact that the U.S. has NOT Balkanized, as you suggest.

    Well said!

OssanAmerica at 07:22 AM JST - 24th September Sounds like a set up to me. Something that China can trade for the boat ramming captain.

Ossan is right on the money.

sfjp330 at 07:40 AM JST - 24th September Doesn't matter if it's a set up. China is going back to hardline >communist approach toward Japan. They are pissed off. There is going to >be more and more bogus accusations toward Japanese living in China. >This is real wake up call for Japan.

    And for China!

There should be periodic tests to evaluate competency to drive not a blind age limit. BTW this should be administered to everybody but with increasing frequency the older you are.

Is it racism or nationalism? Is a Chinese/Japanese baby hafu? Or is it just for ethnicities that are apparently not east-asian in feature?

Good grief! People really hate for no reason. Cute movie, cute story. Not academy award acting but that is no reason to have this level of negativity. Completely bewildering.

There is age of majority (adulthood) and age of sexual consent. In Japan I think its 20 for age of majority and 18 for sexual consent. Which makes this very confusing. She is technically a child so this is child porn. However, if she met them in a Love Hotel it would have been ok for them to have sex.

I don't know whether to praise them for being amicable or to attack them for treating their divorce so cordially. I'm leaning toward praise because if they have kids this could mean having a mutual understanding about visitation.

I tuned into a match and heard the noise. I thought it was a problem with the microphones at the source. I didn't realize it was the vuvuzelas. It was pretty annoying but if that's what they want to use during the game, let them do it.

Geothermal is the best alternative to nuclear & oil fior Japan. Solar can only be a supplemental form of energy.

With a falling birth rate in this country, I'm not sure it's a good idea for Japan to reward same-sex couples who can't procreate by giving them SS benefits.

So, I'm going to make some assumptions here:

    1) Individuals who work (legally receive income) pay into SS and at some point in the future receive some percentage of what they paid back after some set of conditions are met (e.g. retirement, inability to work when a certain age is reached, etc.)

    2) Spouses/children of deceased individuals who have once paid into SS receive some percentage of what was paid after some set of conditions are met (e.g. death of spouse parent)

    3) If a single individual who has paid into SS during any part of their life dies without a spouse or children that the government keeps that money.

This is about a person determining who would receive benefits from the money they contributed into the SS system. This is not currently afforded to non-married couples under current law. What in the world is wrong with allowing someone to choose who would benefit?
