Looks very peaceful and relaxing. Would consider a bit of poaching while I'm at it when the pesky Russian Border Patrol looks the other way.

Give it up chiba. Each and every country's coverage of the olympics favor to that of their own country's athelete. This is nothing new. What's popular in certain country is not so in another.

I will give up nothing, especially now that Uchishiba gave me the confidence to go on after his judo gold. Yes of course other countries will show the events their athletes are in, but not to the exclusitivity you see here. Where are you from by the way? If you're not a direct descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu I bet you're an embarassment to your nation.

Traditionally, most events finals are done during the evening but several events most notably, swimming, was done in the morning to satisfy the request from NBC (U.S. station). So yeah. Ratings are very important.

Morning nige. Well event finals are popular aren't they. But there's also all the lead-up to that final and a lot of interesting competition. I find it hard to believe that the regular program crap they are showing right at this instant could garner more ratings than once-in-four-years elite international competition. Oops, I said international didn't I? Case closed. Much like an island mindset.

I watched both the 2000 and 2004 Olympics in Japan, and I remember being struck by how limited the coverage was. NHK would often skip marquee events to show Judo, or a swimming heat in which the Japanese competitor finished in 8th. And then there were the endless replays when a Japanese athlete did win gold. I take it nothing has changed. I wonder if Japanese people ever complain about the coverage?

No, some other posters have made it clear and are undisputably correct that it is only foreigners who are dissatisfied with the extreme myopia and unparalleled self-obsession. But yes nothing has changed. If they're not showing other events cos the ratings would drop off, then that speaks volumes about most of the population who can't stop staring in their collective mirror for a couple of weeks.

I have no idea why this is branded as 'arrogance', he was stating how calm he felt.

It all comes down to how I translate it from behind my computer stronghold and armchair. I'm always right too, especially about competitors whose name I can't even put to their face. Love my own rhetoric.

Cut him some slack, he's the best breaststroker in the world, two gold medals two olympic records, one world record + the other one on another day. Why is he arrogant for telling the truth? he was as cool as a cucumber - you could see it yesterday. Very content with years of hard work paying dividends. Enough of the tall poppy syndrome.

Sorry, just offering some biased counter-rubbish. Why is someone arrogant for their elation after a hard-fought relay? See through some posters I do.

"I was so calm that I think I could have seen each face in this venue"

Sickening arrogance. Well done, you've just picked up your third gold medal. Most arrogant competitor in the world. And did you see his victory yells in the water after his 100m victory? You make me sick Kitajima. End armchair rhetoric.

    So he's not really arrogant.

Your rhetoric has taken a turn now that you've bothered to familiarise yourself with who this thread is actually about.

That's the litmus test of a truly great athlete.

Gee I hope he passes your armchair test.

Surely this has something to do with the new 11th inning tiebreak format creating injustices all over the place. Oh wait. First Japan has to score an equal number of runs as their opponent before that kicks in.

"Today, just today, they are better than us," Japan manager Senichi Hoshino said.

And they will be next time too, you tough-talking loser. You have no excuses for today's loss, but I'm sure there will be some outrageous anti-Japan injustice sometime over the next week or so and that is why Japan didn't get the gold medal it is a shoe-in to win.

Let me first say that the question is the stupidest one ever asked.

The mods know how to push buttons. As do many of the readers. And the cycle begins and some people make money, but most people just waste their time and lives.

It really doesn't matter what I think, and posting here won't change anything one iota. What is certain though is that China is gonna win a lot of medals and finish on top for the first time. Go you red beast.

I think there are two kinds of 'victory yell'. There's the 'overflow of joy' yell (cho kimochi ii) and there's the arrogant 'I'm better than anyone else' yell.

Yep every competitor in the world fits in two groups nicely with your rhetoric.

I'm not sure which one was Phelps

And that would pretty much disqualify you from addressing the question this thread is about.

He (Kitajima) is full of confidence, of course, as he has every right to be because he's a darn good swimmer

And Phelps isn't? Your bias is obvious and I hereby serve your notice of disqualification.

I for one don't mind his antics. It's interesting, as were the Japanese commentators' reactions in one case - back to the studio and it was silence for a couple of seconds and mouths gaping open. Hilarious!

The only people that are complaining about the coverage of Olympics in Japan are foreigners in Japan. True or False? Let the debate begin.

I'll go with true, just to placate you.

I'm not even familiar with this pair since all the attention was focused on Ogushio (who were wiped off the court).

Well the Ogushio combo are cuter than Maeda and Suetsuna.
