Wild card Date loses her first round match in front of home crowd at the Japan Ope. Back into retirement then? Nice try though. She's the champion of gaman.

I wish the cops today would dress like this. Then when they're sitting around doing nothing I could get a good picture of them.

Match fixing in sumo goes back to pretty much when it started. The word yaocho was born from sumo. As in, they had to come up with a word to describe the intentional losing of bouts for other benefits.

Now to address the question at hand, I don't see yaocho…

I think this is a case of somebody pushing something into the spotlight that people know is there, but would rather keep on pretending to ignore it, as it gives them more evidence of Japans "specialness" of having this mythical thousand year old "only in Japan" psuedo sport.

    I think…

Totally rings hollow, and obiously conveniently overlooked by many as this is a convenient way to indict the entire country.

This news shouldn't be so shocking.

Not shocking as in unheard of, but definitely interesting and we'll see how damaging his testimony will be and if match-fixing is finally accepted as fact. The shocking part will be which stable masters and other wrestlers have been smoking the funny stuff.

Can people please bother to familiarise themselves with the subject before posting? Is that too much to ask? Probably. This is not one man against the establishment. Wakanoho is supporting (alongside a former komusubi) Shukan Gendai's writer's claims of match-fixing, which the Sumo Association has taken issue with and the…

NHK sucks. While that's old news, their 7 o'clock news just finished with no mention of one of today's biggest pieces of news. They did however manage a story on how the Yokozuna Council has decided not to consider the November tournament as decisive on Asa's future as yokozuna (given…

It was already outlined in the book "Freakanomics".

Stop referencing this book like it belongs out of the rubbish bin. You make it sound like they conducted ground-breaking research or something. The first chapter of this obviously fine publication concerned itself with day 15 results and only day 15 results.…
