One of the highlights for me was not so-and-so winning a gold in this or that, but tough man Hoshino and co. being exposed for the empty rhetoric and self-delusions the media blew into the stratosphere and then they subsequently crashed back to the planet called Earth. As to why this was a highlight, it's because I am filled with hate and my life sucks. Anyway, the head honch of the athletes yesterday layed into Hoshino's method of picking a few elite players from each of the teams and practicing a bit together and described it as a bloody shambles. Shame, Hoshino, shame.
The lowlight for me would be the extreme single-minded Japan-focused media coverage, and which ended up being very, very repetitive as Japan won about half the gold medals it did in Athens. Why bother even going abroad to compete? Just do it in Japan and call yourself the best, that way other athletes won't even obscure the footage of red and white. There was an interesting article on the net (written by a Japanese) which slammed the Japanese media's coverage - which had more time and space for coverage than ever before - and which by international comparison was ridiculously inward-focused. The article was subsequently pulled down quick smart, because the Japanese don't like reality served straight up. But I was able to save it before it disapperared. I was gonna post the link here but after due consideration I don't think I should.

They might have lost at some point. Not really the kind of thing many Japanese viewers are ready to see or hear about. So it was all very hush hush.

I wonder how small the media contingent was at Narita today. Slightly different from what it would have been if they won anything, not to mention that ever elusive gold.

That's a little too close to the outside world for my liking. Oh well, easy come easy go.

Yep bit of luck there in the end that got 'em over the line. Really could have gone either way. Lot of work put in by both teams getting to that point. Good that it came down to the 9th inning too.

That's pretty damn accurate. So in the end Phelps won this by a considerable margin, given today's high tech society and information highways. I wonder if they could time my general attention span.

All hail Korea, OLYMPIC AND THUS WORLD CHAMPIONS FOR AT LEAST EIGHT YEARS. Eight years?! Ouch Japan. And shame on you, disappointment of Asia. Please look to your superior Korean counterparts and get some tutelage on how to play the game properly. Also I think there were a few billion typos in the press when tough man turned national disgrace Hoshino said Japan is only interested in the gold medal. What he meant to say was Japan is not interested in any medals. Welcome home, WBC Champions! I still have my 2006 pennant flag! It's a bit dusty, but lest we forget.

Not Korea! Anybody but Korea please! We Japanese are better than them! I have my 2006 classic flag to prove it!

Sorry to say it but the Japanese are one insecure bunch. Even some posters here just can't put down their baseball classic 2006 flag. But it's not entirely the media's fault. The media rely on corporate sponsors and advertising, and they want the broadcasts to present the image that Japan is strong, not to have to many unhappy results (read: reality) that would make viewers upset. There's the problem - many of the Japanese at large aren't strong enough to accept reality and defeat, and so continue to perpetuate their delusions and look for excuses.

Here come the injustices that were the reason for Japan's failure to medal. Most people who repeat the garbage churned out by the media will probably feel the aftertaste of sour grapes still lingering and shut their mouths before the sentence is over.
Here's Japan's stupid problem (well one of them) - Japanese baseball doesn't comply with international standards. The strike zone is different, the ball is different, the height of the mound is different, and the field size is different. Blame all of them if you're looking for any reason other than player and management quality that doesn't quite cut it on the world stage.
Congrats to Korea on the gold, the last team in the tournament Japan would like to see the gold go to.

I hope George becomes something like the ex-Presidents from Point Break when he's done, and searches for the ultimate wave.

Like a nightmare isn't it? Tough man Hoshino is finished and his brand tarnished forever, he doesn't need any more slinged at him given what I saw out there today, but I will. Not so tough anymore are ya? Just a silly old coot who couldn't organise his way out of a barf bag. Said bag being the top talent of Japan (but not those good enough to be recruited to the MLB which plays in the US, a non-Japanese country). Shame, Hoshino, shame. And just in case there were a few in Japan who didn't know about it and were still under some kind of delusion that Japan is quite good at baseball, the newspaper I had in my hands this evening might have helped. You know, just helping out.

I can't help but feel that the Hoshino non-gold is like a massive black eye and shadow over the end of the Olympics, and when people refer back to the Beijing Games, it'll be oh yeah we Hoshino Japan lost to Korea in the baseball. Well they'll think that anyway, not say it out loud.

So Japan versus the US tomorow. Could Japan lose to the US again? The answer is yes.
He should put Darvish and Maaaaakun on again. They might be able to do something.

Sorry that last one went out after your request. And since you seem like a rational man, I will abide. But if I see disinformation rubbish from one certain (posing as two) poster, I may have to launch another barrage.
