Not sitting next to gaijin tends to be more common in Kansai than Kanto. On a packed commuter train, it's every salaryman for him/herself.

I try to ride a really early train in an attempt to get a seat. I use the same train line as Yelnats but at probably a much ealier time. To Shibuya, he's right, it is pretty much packed (although I did manage to get a seat from my stop this morning.) Going back at an earlier time, though, I am almost guarenteed a seat.

It was a bit of a disappointment. Both of them were hardly hitting each other for much of the earlier rounds. Couple of good punches from Kameda pretty much did Naito in.

Maybe Naito was being weighed down by all those advertising logos he had on his trunks. He's lucky they didn't fall down around his ankles during the bout!

But lets face it even if they all got a bit of money its not exactly going to hugely increase the tax bill of 120 million people is it?

Take a look at the annual budget for the imperial household:

    http://www.kunaicho.go.jp/kunaicho/kunaicho/yosan-ichiran.html

Those numbers you see there have a unit of 10,000.

The imperial family has an allowance of JPY 280,910,000 this year. That is just the immediate family. Add in the extended family, and that is going to be quite a sizeable chunk. And it won't just be the allowance that goes up. All the other numbers on that page will increase as well because there will be more office drones required to look after the paperwork.

More keystone J-cops patroling the subways nowhere near the Obama visit demanding ID from "foreign-looking" people.

Yeah! Cops were crawling all over the subways yesterday and today and even at the airport! I lost count of how many I saw! I was at Narita airport to pick up my mother, and was asked for my ID a total of ... uh ... once. That was by the lady at the entrance just past the train gates. In other words, the same as every other day you go out to the airport. And I used my driver's lisence rather than gaijin card.

But wait! Today, with the Emporer's 20th year of ascension celebrations going on near our office, the cops are swarming around here as well as the right wingers! I lost count of how many I saw. On my way to and from lunch, I was asked to show my ID ... uh ... zero times.

I guess not everyone is Debito. Probably for the best.

they will have to figure out why women cant take this posistion and the excuse of culture wont wash.

One other "excuse" as it were is that the Imperial family (not royal) is supported taxes paid by people in Japan. If the law were changed to allow an Empress on the throne again, taxes would have to pick up the tab for all the other female members of the Imperial family. That means ALL the offshoots. Which is a LOT of poeple. Which means a HUGE tax burden.

Are you going to help pay for that?

There is a HUGE television screen set up in his yard for the festivities today. Looks to be a huge bash. Maybe I will wander over and see if they will give me a flag to wave.

    Dante Culver pictured above

Dante Carver. The article has it misspelled as well in the 4th paragraph. Or, it did at the time of this writing.

So, basically, nobody is going to end up with anything. Or, everyone is going to end up with nothing.

Igarashi hit his prime about 4-5 years ago. I think he is on the downward slope now. He sat out all of 2007 due to injury and 2008 had a W-L-S-H record of 3-2-3-12 in 44 games and this year 3-2-3-29 in 56 games.

A few years ago, he was something to fear. Now, I am not so sure.

    Overrated. Way overrated.

"Jackie Brown" was probably the only film I have seen of his that was tolerable. "Pulp Fiction" while having a lot of good throw away one liners etc was pointless and plotless. "Reservoir Dogs" was just gratuitously violent. Didn't bother with any of the "Kill Bill" films.

That being said, I am vaguely interested in seeing "Inglourious Basterds" but I doubt I will. They are offering my money back if I am not satified with it in the theatre which is probably what is prompting this question of the day.

Kept flipping channels between both games last night and ended up missing a lot of the good stuff but overall, both were pretty good games last night with a slight edge to the Fighters-Eagles game.

I was surprised that Obispo made it passed the 3rd inning with has crappy as his start off was. Dead ball on Araki looked really painful and he nearly took Blanco's head off at one point. Surpised there wasn't a rush to the mound.

8th inning chance for a comeback by Rakuten was really intense. Seginol was just a bit too slow off of third, I think. Had he made it back, it would have change the flow of the game immensely.

Was it just me or were the Fighters' fans just not into it during the last inning? Or am I just too used to Tigers games?

And what the heck was up with cutting out the hero interview at the end of that game? I didn't bother with watching the hero interview for the Giants' game but still, come on!

As has been mentioned, it is all hit or miss. Just like every other country that makes movies.

I loved Battle Royale in book form but absolutely loathe the movie with an indescribable passion. The sequal was tolerable because they at least followed the book.

I have seen the first 2 movies in the 20th Century Boys series both as the theatrical version (on a plane) and the versions they have shown on tv with all new scenes. Seeing both was enjoyable. Haven't seen the 3rd one.

I enjoyed Okuribito but honestly probably wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't got a lot of press from the Academy award win.

Ring was great. Ring II was horrid. Jyu-on (The Grudge) I&II were both good but a bit confusing.

It is all just hit and miss.

They should have volunteered to take some of those dools that were to be "disposed of" after that festival that was featured on the Pic of the day a few weeks ago.

Fukumori signed with the Texas Rangers at the end of 2007 but only had 4 games in the majors before being sent down to the minors.

I vaguely recall someting to the effect of Nomura not wanting to take him back because he didn't like him. Yesterday's performance certainly didn't endear him any more.

From the bits and pieces I saw of each game (the spouse hates baseball) the Ham-Eagles game was the much better of the two last night.

Looks like Nomura screwed up his pitching order and ran out too soon. After loading the bases, you could see Fukumori was gonna blow it.

Good dramatic end, though. Fighters basically need to just win 1 more game.
