But the divorce wasn't recognised by the Japanese authorities. His "home country" is Japan, isn't it by virtue of his naturalisation. Or is this supposed to be like a Tiajuana divorce?

Marriage outside of Japan is recognised in Japan.
Divorce outside of Japan for marriages outside of Japan are recognised as well.
However, marriages that are registered in Japan have to be dissolved in Japan (or through the consulate) in order to be recognised in Japan.

Sort of a self-fulfulling profecy that.
It does look neat, though. Wonder if it will require a license to operate like a Segway?

That would be a shock. Most of the talking heads on the idiot box are saying she will get a 1 year sentence, suspended for 2-3 years because it is her "first" offense.

The original banner read:
"Congratulations on being able to scrounge up 5 million yen after being cut loose from you record company who came out and said 'We aren't coughing up any bail money for her. That is her bed she has to lie in.'"
They ran out of material and had so settle for the shorter banner.

Hardly necessary. With dimensions of 3.6"x1.5" (90.7mm x 30.7mm) this would be easily concealable in the palm of the hand. Couple of spring loaded attachments and you could get it to automatically retract up your sleeve to disappear if anyone gets suspicious. Simply refuse to be searched when questioned and away you go.
Why am I thinking of these things....
At any rate, NuckinFutz is probably right. There will be a lot more upskirt videos available.

According to this:
http://www.avert.org/age-of-consent.htm
Age of consent for the nation of Japan is 13. However, prefectural laws override that and raise it back up.
Since money apparently changed hands, consent doesn't really enter into it.

I am a long termer and am completely indifferent to Mr. James.
What little I have seen of Mr. James comes across as an exuberant F.O.B. newbie. As much as he would deny it, Debito was just like him in his day, I am sure.
Sure, those people can be annoying to us lifers but eventually they either settle down or leave, to be replaced by the next batch. Just as Mr. James will.
Debito, on the other hand, will not...

That article has been debunked. Comments from various sources used in the article were taken out of context and misinterpreted.
New articles should stop referring to that one because it was never true to begin with.

Re: My Darling is a Foreigner vs. Mr. James
Kind of ironic that the guy "leading" the revolt against Mr. James (Debito Arudou) has a MASSIVE hate-on for Tony Laszlo. It is detailed all over Debito's site. He seems upset that most of Japan knows and loves Tony because of his wife's manga as opposed to him who is known only in certain circles and opinions vary quite wildly about him.
I think hearing this will make him more jealous.
