In Japan the penalty for recklessly or without good reason killing or harming a protected animal is up to one year's imprisonment or a fine of up to 1 million yen. (Protected animal = cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, domesticated rabbits, chickens, domesticated pigeons, ducks)
