During the gyoza scandal, wasn't one of the clues pointing to the contamination having occurred in China the fact that the stuff is banned/not produced in Japan? (Though I think there was some small amount being made for research purposes - fuzzy memory on that.)

Sorry, imojochu is a clear strong liquor made from sweet potatoes and, apparently, rice. Lakefuls of the stuff have been recalled after the manufacturers realised they'd used contaminated, unfit-for-consumption rice to make it.
