Unfortunately these tragedies happen and no matter how many times they get reported- noone ever learns- they must think bad things only happen to other people.

nobody is taking any of the rising sea level nonsense seriously.

Except the government of the Maldives, of course. And the Dutch.

The government of Maldives is not taking rising sea levels seriously (except to milk other countries for money)- they building all over the seaside to maximise the tourism profits.

Why should manual doors be heavy- its just a matter of putting them on level ground and good bearings like lift doors which are heavy but are on air bearings (floating) so they use very little electricity to open and close.

No because it masks the microexpressions which the terrorists couldn't otherwise hide and would give away all their intents with careful questioning and observations. Torture is counterproductive and could get terrorists to give misleading information to stop the torture.

What preventative health care- I have had none in 3 years in Japan- they have rediculous age limits to stop you getting free dental checkup which is worldwide regarded as preventative medicine- just because it make sense to support preventative medicine in a socialised system - which a great of Japanese supplement with health insurance (Aflak- American insurance company is bigger in Japan than the US)- doesn't mean they do it. Just like a lot Japanese government decisions.

Hospitals won't accept patients not because they can't adequately treat them but rather because they can't cover any possible eventuality with their facilities- there is no Good Samaritan legislation in Japan so the hospital and doctors can be sued- judges have said doctors took on the responsible when they took you as patient to heal you and must succeed.

They need powerful cranes(its not line of sight so its safe for operators), helicoptors/airships with telescopic lenses and containment vessels and a lot of patience- tear it apart piece by piece not specialised equipment - can be done now.

You can also have really cheap weddings- mine was at little chapel in Saitama City for only a few Man -mind you our wedding party was tiny- none of my side could make it and she had few family members. It could easily have seated many more. The food was poor I think because we accepted a " free upgrade" Weird that Disney doesn't want to make as much money as it can e.g. rent out whatever people want to use.

The old rules said something you can try four times to pass the test but first time is straight away and the second time is 6 months into training so what is the rule now? I worked at nursing high school once. Anyone point a link to the old test (not that I could read but my wife could tell if if the kanji was arcane).

Toilet products were on sale in Britain in the 19th century- the architect of the London sewer system proposed the sale of them to help finance public toilets.

What is strange about those museums- nothing. The bug museum- there are plenty of horror shows and bug/ monster displays in other countries (I went to one in Australia). The ramen museum- plenty of other food museum this one just a little further than some others. A toy museum- wow strange compared to Barbie museums. An animation museum in a country with anime tours.

Yamatosan- you have millions of yen in gambling debts- if you let us cut off a little bit of your pinky finger and keep it secret then we will keep your secret. No reason it has to be the perpetrator's appendage.

Amazing- noone has mentioned the employment system which is a hobbled together mix of 18th and 19th century employment regulations- certainly finally scrap life time employment, have basic starting payment standards which should be fortnightly but encourage negotiation for any conditions either party wants. Put in real employment benefits with mutual obligation. There is actually no shortage of employment in Japan, its just a mismatch between the work that Japanese will take and work available (one issue) and also the support that Japanese need to take the jobs that available for those more willing- for Chinese who take those jobs at the moment- they have family and community support and willingness to live in cramped conditions that Japanese local just don't have.

There is a national disaster organisation- not mentioned at all. They are even mentioned. An evacuation is an evacuation no matter what the reason so these places couldn't handle a big fire or chemical spill.

Japanese also hate those traditional squat toilets. The building in which my volunteer japanese lessons are held has a toilet room with two traditional toilets and one modern (not bidet). Guess which one Japanese people go straight to. Other things to hate the way some shops are always selling in a rip-off way, our local fruit and vegetable shop doesn't list quantity details (e.g. 1 item) of what they sell on their specials flyer, another tiny bread shop doesn't list the consumption tax on its prices and restaurants often don't list all their charges including the often annoying service charge % addon for some restaurants (some of those have useless overservicing).

What's a culture if you say its arts, sports and their expression by origin then Japan is multicultural- most countries are even North Korea (these big displays are they native Korean culture of course not). If you say its a way of thinking by origin- Japan is multicultural they've been influenced by China, Korean, Portugal, Britain, America(enormously)....
    Only Tibet was probably monocultural.

Posted in: Multiculturalism is a reality in the U.S.; it is accepted neither in theory nor in practice in Japan.

This is a story of mental illness and Takayuki Otsuki is too damaged to fix. Few countries can handle such damaged individuals who are psychopaths without outward appearance of mental illness.

C-san suffers from the rediculous out of hours teamworking that is standard in Japan- in other countries it wouldn't matter because the teamworking (even if that part is nonsense) is done on company time.

Unfortunately the school system is in trouble. Graduate teachers are dropping out as they are made home room teachers and its very stressful with demanding parents and care for students. This guy should be sentenced to be a home room teacher for the result of his career- the toughest punishment of all.

There will be almost no health issues from Fukushima except stress- alcoholism, depression ( a lot of that with people rambling on about undefined health effects) - Chernobyl was worse and the expert locals only detecting 10-20 deaths and a few hundred affected in any way. Are the protestors happy to pay the extra costs that are piling on with the increased use of oil, gas and coal electrical power production and the passed on industrial/commericial costs? I'll send them my bill.
