I suppose since I think my own birthday is worth celebrating each year, it's only fair that events like these get commemorated as well.
Posted in: Do you think events like 9/11, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the A-bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and so on should be commemorated each year or would you rather see the dates fade into history without any annual official ceremony?

Wow, glad to hear you know more than the judge. You must share with us your own analysis of the evidence presented at trial, the witness testimony, the various motions filed in this case, the arguments made, and of course your in depth analysis of the judge's opinion and how she got it wrong - in spite of all the precedent she cited. As your comment clearly indicates you have inside knowledge of the case and must have been present from day one - i.e., the filing of the complaint up until judgment, I think us posters would greatly benefit from your thoughts.

yasukuni, of course the individual must be held accountable. But if you look into the studies and do some research beyond the story, "murishinju" and murder-suicides are far more prevalent in Japan than in any other country. I, and probably you too, read these stories on JT on a weekly basis whereas we rarely (but not never) see similar stories in the Western media. Are the Japanese just nuts? Perhaps. But it is logical to conclude the society and the Japanese government are not handling it as effectively as other nations. How many Japanese do you know have ever been to a therapist? Probably ZERO. Pretty insane for a country as crowded as this with as many problems as this.

That's not really the issue; the court can only look to the law in place - and it is apparently unconstitutional. We can assume the military will come up with ways to comply, sort of like the way businesses must comply with wheelchair-accessible laws. (That may be a bad comparison.) But the judge's job is solely to look at whether the statute being attacked can stand up to a constitutionality test - and apparently it doesn't. Assuming the ruling stands on appeal, it will be interesting to see how the military reacts - will it simply allow gays in without making significant changes to practical day-to-day activities? Or will it segregate homosexuals from the heterosexuals. I imagine that would be challenged as well.

Japan also needs a few In-N-Out Burger joints, more Tokyo-area homes with back yards, and wider, palm-tree lined highways for easy cruisin'. But like that will ever happen!

Hang in there Keiko. After a few years you may just make it to the big leagues of beer and appear in Kirin beer commercials. Oh well, gotta start somewhere and I suppose you can't get much lower than Asahi Happoshu.

If stoning someone is acceptable in Iranian society (and apparently it is since the populace has not revolted or mobilized themselves to protect this person) then who is Europe or anyone else to comment on it? I agree that it is brutal but this is the middle east... Things that are legally impermissible here are accepted there. When the population itself rises up, then European criticism will be more credible.

Unless and until the activists are Japanese, things simply will not change and this man is wasting the embassy's time (and my tax dollars). Imagine if instead of MLK back in the 60's we had some French dude speaking to us about civil rights... We'd have been like, "Talk to the hand."

Mr. Tokoro is an award winning actor who has appeared in films by Akira Kurosawa and recently as a voice actor in the critically acclaimed Ponyo film. I sure hope Mr. Donuts is paying him a generous price to look like a moron in that outfit.
