"In our legal system, Ayers was not even charged. There is no question that this was because of prosecutorial incompetence, the passage of time and dumb luck, but Ayers would not be the first nor the last to benefit from these things. And the fact remains that"

Very true. And William Ayers admitted as much when talking about his acquittal after FBI agents botched the case:

"Guilty as sin, free as a bird, it's a great country" was one of the Ayers quotes accompanying the picture in the magazine.

And yet he still tramples our flag...

Photo of Bill Ayers, standing on the American flag, 2001.

From an article in which he explains the reasoning behind his 60's campaign of domestic terror and that of his wife, Charles Manson enthusiast Bernadine Dhorn.

"As for pals? the guy [Ayers] held one dinner for Obama in 95."

    You are uninformed.

Barack Obama was hand-picked by the former terrorist William Ayers to help co-chair the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which had a budget of something like 150 million dollars and was set up to tackle the formidable challenges Chicago's public schools faced.

It basically represents the only record of what Obama has really done when given the responsibility of executive oversight for a project designed to produce results - improved academic performance; in other words, change.

He failed, and he failed Chicago school kids, throwing money into the most radical sorts of experiments, aimed not at actually educating but designed to buy votes.

Like the criminal ACORN group - which Obama is also closely tied to - it's the kind of stealth radicalizing dressed up "education" and "community organization" that Ayers and the aged, tenured socialists who dominate academia in Chicago and pretty much every major metropolis in the country specialize in.

Obama, around about 40 seconds into the video below, cites his experience on this board as one of the things that he believed at the time qualified him for political office in Illinois.

"And it does not matter who becomes president. The Americans will never have as good as we who have "socialized medicine" have."

Is that from "Nurse Oppai and Dr. Kinchin-botchan" ?

Yes, a search of the old Japan Today site has poster Jean Colmar singing a somewhat different tune...

    Certain posters here scare me:

"US healthcare today is designed to fail but at the same time line the pockets of specific groups in that industry."

Care to name these specific groups?

"That is why Cuba has better healthcare than the US."

So why are you not living there? Your posts show complete disgust for those who rule Japan...

"The grievous social ill is that 1/6 of the American population should be without health care benefits"

Assuming the usual 47 million figure is even correct you can subtract 15 million right off the bat - no sane American could argue taxpayers should provide health care for illegal aliens.

There are millions in their late teens and twenties who have no insurance by choice.

    I was one.

As I recall most of my friends were. Thirty was a lifetime away...

"We could also compare it to our neighbor Canada or to "mother" England. And then there are always countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland and so on."

And when we do compare survival rates for cancer the US is still tops.

    Yes, the costs are higher.

Keeping your life is a whole different statistic.

The US government couldn't provide oversight on housing. What makes Democrats think it can do so with our health care system?

"Obama's ideas are hardly wacko. If anything, they do not go far enough in providing what we really need."

    Which is what, exactly?

"The[y] are, however, more thoughtful than McCain's insouciant trust of private insurers. Far from destroying this nation, Obama's ideas will take a positive step toward addressing a grievous social ill that makes our nation poor in comparison to other industrialized countries."

1 - What is this grievous social ill?

2 - What industrialized countries are you comparing the United States to?

At her most recent rally in California Governor Palin basically called out Senator Obama for lying about the true nature of his association with the ex-Weatherman terrorist and murderer Bill Ayers.

I think the Republican "October surprise" may involve simply making public what Senator Obama hoped he could always keep hidden.

Detroit's mayor was a rising star in the Democratic party until he resigned in shame last month.

As is now the double standard, so to speak, the major networks almost never mentioned party affiliation.

Maybe Governor Palin is right. Maybe the people of Detroit and Michigan deserve better.

"And while they may be every bit as harmless as Senator Obama's affiliation with Wright's church, they deserve equal airing."

Why did Senator Obama leave Trinity Church if its theology, rituals and politics were harmless?

And would equal airing include the offer to address the entire country - on national TV no less - about religion itself, as the adult convert to Christianity Senator Obama was allowed to do?

btw - This is an important matter, in Michigan and nationwide. Blacks in America probably vote 90 percent Democratic, but unlike the rest of registered Democrats the percentage among them which profess a belief in God is also around that percentile. Senator Obama stated in his first book that he joined a church after being told repeatedly that in Chicago it was political necessity.Detroit probably isn't much different.

Recall how poorly Senator Biden did this year in his third or fourth (I've lost count) Democratic presidential primary and then look at these numbers for the Palin - Biden debate on Thursday:

" 33% higher than Friday’s top-of-the-ticket debate between John McCain and Barack Obama (52.4 million).

61% higher than the 2004 vp debate between Dick Cheney and John Edwards (43.6 million).

23% higher than the 1984 match up between George Bush and Geraldine Ferrarro (56.7 million), the former title-holder for the most-watched vp debate."

People didn't turn on their TVs to watch Senator Biden.

If Governor Palin is to be held answerable for her pastor's zealotry and unabashedly pro-American beliefs can those supporting her expect from secular and scientific 'humanists' that the same accountability is expected from Senator Obama for his twenty year association with Reverend Jeremiah Wright and his infamous screaming damnations of the United States of America from his Chicago pulpit?

A cynic might say it looks more and more like Al Qaeda and The Taliban just want to take up the founders of what we call Pakistan on their word that as a country it would represent a refuge for 'Asian' Muslims unable to live alongside Hindus and eventually the land from which the faithful would see the development of a modern nation committed to a purer form of Islam than is found in the Middle East.

Whose fault is it if the same centuries-old violence and infighting has inevitably arisen among all the Muslims concerned?

Some of the contributors here scare me:

"About Palin - what GOPpers need to understand is that the Sarah Palin we saw yesterday debating Joe Biden was the **SAME **Sarah Palin we saw screwing up her lines, staring in dumbfounded silence, going wildly off topic in response to specific questions from Katie Couric last week."

What you need to understand, before stepping into a voting booth in the modern world, is that Governor Palin's interviews with Katie Couric, like all such interviews, were cut and edited afterwards.
