“It’s not a time to panic,” the White House said.
Once, just once, I want a government organisation to say "Everybody, the time has come to panic! (but please do it in an orderly fashion)".

Haha, I'm glad someone mentioned the 5-6-7-8s. Unfortunately, the biggest pop stars are big merely because they appeal to the lowest common demoninator while the 5-6-7-8s, while incredibly awesome, have a very individual sound. Too screechy for a mainstream market.

If you look at the headline, you'll find it's addressed only to Asian pop stars. I'm one but I can't believe everyone else answering this question is.
Does Numa Numa count as a foreign hit?
J-pop and similar styles are just crap. Pure, unadulterated crap. That's why nobody outside of Asia wants to listen to it. Get rid of the boy bands and bring in some people with talent. People who can write a song and possibly even play an instrument.

A recent surge in applications? I doubt anyone is doing it just for the measly $12 000 which would barely cover living expenses. The only explanation I can think of is a renewed pride Americans have in their own country, pride which has been engendered by political change. Obama talks about hope and people become more optomistic. He's done great things so far, keep it up.

Watching NZ beat Japan 152-0 in a World Cup Game is still etched in my memory. I'm sure they've improved since then but still...I think Australia will win about 60-10. More if Australia plays its best team.

Seeing Japan play a quality rugby team has the potential to kill off rugby in Japan. Most games you see on TV here are Waseda vs some other university; reasonable quality but nothing like international standard.
Japanese people don't realise that their national team is going to get murdered by any of the top 15 teams in the world.

It seems that when one wants to be discriminatory, 'homosexual' is usually used while 'gay' is more accepting. But there's not really a huge amount of difference.
I think that gays should try to achieve full marriage rights just because having less rights sends a statement that somebody DESERVES less rights. It's also a very slippery slope; if you deny gays some rights, where do you stop?
10% of people are gay. Nobody chooses to be gay. Discrimination comes from fear only.

Seriously, these people should stop whining. They (I'm assuming they are all rich) had it great under Bush and now it's payback time. Anyway, taxing the rich and giving to the poor is morally right as the number of people who benefit is much greater than the number of people who lose out.
And didn't Jesus say something about a camel, a needle and getting into heaven?

I feel I should point out that suicides in Japan were about 30 000 last year after being at the 32000, 33000 level for the last decade. Very misleading headline. Perhaps when people have to struggle to survive their lives have more meaning?

If this is the most serious foreign crime that JT can come up with, it seems fair to say that foreign crime is not a big problem in Japan.

Also, how do you see how people voted without actually voting yourself? This issue can't be boiled down to a simple yes/no, conditions apply.

They've wasted so much time on this, it's about 3 hours pay for the average Japanese salaryman. Mine is going straight into a big, fat envelope labelled 'salary'.

I think vegetarians have grounds for disdain whereas meateaters don't. Meat is bad for the environment (takes more land to produce the same amount of calories, manure run-off, increased water usage, deforestation etc) and indirectly causes third world hunger (growing plants, feeding them to cattle and eating the cattle results in far less food).
While eating a small amount of meat may not cause health problems, many meat eaters seem to overeat and are setting themselves up for heart attacks, strokes and unhealthy old age.
So, vegetarians are morally superior and can be disdainful. I try to avoid meat as possible but I must admit it's pretty tasty :-)

I despise Becky as well but apparently a lot of people don't. Hard to believe, I know.
I'll be flying Jetstar back to Aus soonish. It was an endless farce, booking a basinette for the baby. Call centre staff were incompetent in Japanese and when I called them their service disconnected itself 3 times before I could check that the booking had been correctly made (it hadn't).
The only excuse I think they can make is that they are a relatively new airline with little experience. Maybe they'll get better. I hope so because they're certainly quite cheap.

Activists are shocked? I don't think anyone is shocked. And even when America "condems" China, it just means: carry on, we don't care.
