Where does it mention that in this article? But anyway, since few people buy small screen TVs these days it's better to accept that fact and make sure that people aren't buying large screen TVs that are very bad for the environment (plasma screen) instead encouraging them to buy more environmentally freindly models.

I notice you've always got something to whine about hokkaidoguy: JT posters.
Anyway, nice gimmick but I make that much in an hour so not even worth the time to queue. And what good is a tiny speck of diamond if it's not contained in a ring or pendant?

Good to see Cuba start coming in from the cold. And good to see Obama not being hypocritical like past presidents. Refusal to deal with dictators just because they're not American puppets is not constructive.

Ha, good point. I have a 10 year old tiny Honda. But I'm sure the thrill of an "exciting" car would wear off just like the novelty factor of everything wears off. Also, most roads are 40 kmh, there's nowhere you can really drive fast except the highway and that's usually pretty congested too. Hence, you can't get maximum excitement from a fast car.

I think having an "exciting" car or a "boring" car is unimportant as you'll get used to it in very little time. However, the 38 kilometres/litre is something that will go on and on.

So a public health care system is good for car companies? Yes, it's good for a lot of things.

I think Poirot was pretty kick-arse in both book and TV form. And Ustinov was also very convincing in a Poirot movie.

Why is GM bankrupt while Toyota is only suffering minor losses and looks very good long term? 20 years ago GM decided to focus on big cars and Toyota went for small cars. Now nobody can afford a gas-guzzler and the Prius is selling like hotcakes. Still, at least GM tried.

As above. People start changing their eating habits when their young and the people who switched to McDonalds in their teens are not old enough to be dying of the health effects yet. They will though.
The U.S., which spends the highest amount of money per person on health care—$6,719, also still lags on child mortality compared to other advanced nations. If this is not an argument for public health care, what is?

the captain and the crew were trying to figure out how the aircraft was losing 6,000 pounds of fuel an hour
They knew they were losing enough fuel to cause the plane to crash but didn't turn around because they didn't know exactly HOW? Immediate sackings called for here. Gross incompetence by a lot of people.

New flu means swine flu? If so, please say so. I know Japan changed the name to 新型 but nobody else did.
I'm avoiding swine flu by doing nothing to avoid swine flu. Not caring means I don't stress and therefore my immune system is stronger. Everyone else should do the same.

It is my right to drive a car with whatever the MPG it has.
And I have the right to breathe clean air. So where does that leave us?

Thanks for pointing out, GW, that no terrorist attacks have ever been committed in Japan by foreigners, just groups like Aum. On the other hand, radical Japanese groups like the Red Army have committed many acts of terrorism in many countries.
Furthermore, the foreign crime rate is significantly lower than the Japanese crime rate, especially for serious crime such as murder and rape.
Therefore, any move like this is for xenophobic reasons.
Having said that, I'm not going to move any earlier. I am just a little pissed off though.
Most countries try to get foreign populations to assimilate. This just doesn't happen in Japan and the reason is racism.

Why the big focus on whether he was unbalanced? Surely EVERY murderer is mentally unbalanced, whether permanently or just for a few seconds. If this guy doesn't get the death penalty then neither shoudl anyone else.

Toyota shares were under 3000 yen a couple of months ago, now they're about 4000. I think all this bad news has been factored into the share price already and there's actually less bad news than is expected.

Bush stacked his cabinet with right-wing wackos and that's why the GOP is now the right-wing wacko party. They need to be more inclusive (move towards the centre instead of surrendering it to the Dems), otherwise they simply cannot get enough votes to get back power.

It's not Google's fault that discrimination exists in Japan. Why doesn't Japan get rid of the friggin' Koseki Tohon system anyway? It just makes discrimination easier.

If the US wants to be the 'good guy' when it fights countries like Afghanistan, it has to be morally superior and be able to clearly differentiate itself. Getting rid of torture is a good place to start.
