There will be a lot of talk, but nothing serious, unfortunately.
Japan will continue to rely on the US for serious defense, while whining about US service members being a huge burden and a pit of crime and violence.
I'd be thrilled to see a distancing of relations, but I don't think DJP will be in power long enough to make any real changes. They are even less ready to lead than Obama's bunch, and will fail. The ministries will not cooperate, and will stand aside and let things fall apart, and voters will swing back to LDP.
The US should not get too close to the DJP, or may pay for it when LDP comes back in.

As an owner of 3 US and 3 Japanese vehicles, I can categorically say you'd be a fool to buy a Detroit product. Japanese cars are simply the best. Buy the Toyota that's on the lot...not the poorly designed and built-by-overpaid-lazy-union members crap the Big 3 are selling.

nandakandamanda, where is the ticket office for the Empire Boats? I want!
But seriously; no alcohol or caffeine on the flight, noise-canceling headphones, and try to stay up until bedtime at your destination if you can. That gets me reset pretty quickly (Japan-US). US-Japan is ok for me because I get home completely exhausted at bedtime.

I was told the new-driver mark was optional because I had been driving for more than 20 years in my home country, but highly recommended. I used it...no harm in it, especially if it got me a bit more patience from others when I was figuring out how to get my car into an MC Escher parking spot.
