    Saitama again... couldn't resist.

Japan seriously needs a certification system for parenting and spontaneous visits to check up on the kids every other month. How many more kids need to be murdered by their own parents before officials realise this is becoming a nationwide pandemic.

nuh? what the... bulky belongings?? how else do they expect you to go hiking. Choose a not so busy time of day to travel, but even then...

Maybe if you could send baggage to specific coordinates on a mountain range it would solve the problem, but that rucksack is nothing compared to a trip back from Europe or the US. If I'm back from an extremely late flight then I don't really have much of a choice since I can't send the stuff via Yamato and the 4 suitcases join me on the Narita Express and then local train.

Ever seen a family of 6 coming back from a long holiday or a group of skiers on the local train.

I was sure the poster was for refraining from eating on the train, but how wrong was I when I read the sign. Maybe the guy should have his partner hold his backpack's for him.

The animal test is more a test for safety (will the rat die) then the actual desired affect. Take headache pills for example, how many dogs, cats and mice do you know that suffer from headaches. As if they can tell you that the pain has subsided even if you did hook them up to an EEG (Electroencephalography)

Cleo is right in that the final outcome is inevitably a human test. Great to know that a mouse didn't die from taking the pill, but so what...

well, judging by all your comments I can conclude that prison isn't supposed to be a walk in the park and it looks like they live up to the promise.

Nothing wrong with kanji, it's a great from of expression in a written language, extremely versatile, very efficient and concise.

As with OCR technology my mobile phone does all that and better. Just snap a shot of that business card or sentence you can't decipher and use the "henkan" button to get the reading of it. If the dictionary on your mobile isn't good enough just google it. I'm sure they can just code an appli for mobiles and charge 525yen a pop to do the job.

Hello GeorgeRoper, good question, I hope you have a good answer for it. But, on a larger scale that's exactly the kind of thinking that countries go to war for.

Like I said what works for you will probably work for your kids. However, Corporal Punishment in schools is just not right. Pull them out of school, kick them out, call the police, do what ever you need, but hitting them probably won't change their attitude. Maybe smacking from a loving parent and they know they are loved works, but cold canning's from a school teacher? If the parents don't care then society has bigger problems and need to educate the parents so it never gets to that point.

Drastic measures need to be taken for some and maybe a change in society will help like few months boot camp or preferably helping out some NPO group in the middle of a 3rd world country. Building wells can be fun.

no, no, and no... Never been hit, never seen anyone been hit and nothing good comes out of being hit (except that you might hit back) If you do believe you need to smack a kid then obviously something is already seriously wrong, the problem should have been fixed long before it got to that point.

Just to put that into perspective, have you ever heard of a dog training centre that trains dogs by beating them? Obviously not... then why would humans think hitting smaller humans would have any positive outcome.

And yes, we've already done this topic many times before. I do remember Cleo's wonderful comments. Pity some parents resort to violence or whatever you want to call it... what worked on them will surely work on their kids...

feel free to write text messages, browse the web, play games, listen to music, etc but please refrain from shouting on the phone (which will happen on a noisy plane) A one way conference call is fine.

Oh, sorry I went on talking about how noisy people can be on the mobile phone. Well since all international flight have phones built into the entertainment system that's kind of hard to stop. If one day they decide to make the phone system based on VoIP and perhaps FREE (haha) then everyone will be yakety yaking. However, with my noise cancelling headset I could careless.

well, at least it's not some kind of parade with 1,000,000 armed soldiers marching in unison. As long as it is part of a disaster drill I see no harm. If I did see missiles and tanks strolling through the streets of Tokyo then I would be a lot more worried.

somo99999 > and could you give me a time line for this expected attack or do you recommend Japan uses biological weapons against them first just in case?
