they check your record in Japan? I didn't even know they had a system set up for it. I would have thought it was all manual and in paper form and would cost a fortune to even try to find the paperwork, let alone most of it is either gone missing, misplaced or destroyed. No company is going to do background checks with those odds. On the other hand a quick search on the web will produce interesting photos of the wild parties on facebook (security sucks so you can bypass most of it if you know what to look for)

not sure what yelling Fire in a crowded theatre has anything to do with free speech? TV programs love to do this kind of prank on people. They might warn the building owners in advance, but they will go far enough to pump smoke in the room, get the Yakuza to open fire on the crowd and blow up a few things to make it all the more ridiculous.
So, if you are willing to accept the consequences then it's your right to be a idiot. You'll still get arrested, but not because of freedom of speech, but because you caused a panic, may have injured people and probably caused loss of profit or damage to the facility.
Now, if you were arrested for speaking out about how crap the facility is and demand money back, etc then unless you were disturbing the peace by using a 150dB mega horn then that would be injustice.

ahh yes the Japanese Auschwitz version. X-Files really liked to use that in their episodes. Most countries have their own version of Auschwitz experimentation along with nuclear weapons testing, germ, chemical and biological warfare.
I'm actually more concerned about the experiments that go on today in the name of humanity. Whether than be dna genome re-sequencing, cloning along with any form of advanced weapons research on humans. I think China falls into the category of using prisoners for experiments and selling body parts. US and Europe are the ones that obscure the grey area to insure continued research on both trying to help humans and exterminated ethnic groups at the same time. I believe their was interesting research going in to target specific groups and gender as well as sterilization. My favorite would be the one targeting just the smokers with x amount of nicotinie in their system (bind it with something). Scary stuff.

Ahh yes the old Sony tactic and look what happened to them. I'll give Apple another year till subscription start dropping. Although I do hear about some compromise and working with Adobe for a version of flash. Now if jail-breaking was made easier for 4.1.2 that would be good.

limboinjapan > I guess that makes sense. Even if you can't afford uniforms at least the gov an supply the same ones and keep every kid on an equal playing field. After they graduate and get thrown into society is when the real fun starts.

Zenny11 - child services should be dropping by at least once a year at random till the kid is age 4-5. It should be compulsory like it is in the UK unlike Japan which you have to ask them to come to your home. For the average family it is not much of an inconvenience and would actually welcome the pros with open hands and ask any questions which I would hope new parents have plenty of.

wow, you live in a ultra expensive area. Even so the landlords must be making enough to cover the mortgage otherwise they would have been long bankrupt. A 1-2% mortgage would be the same as borrowing 6-8oku with an APR of 1-2%. If you know what your doing you could essentially sell the property for the same price or more if your lucky while paying back the monthly mortgage and reinvesting the rest into to other gov bonds, securities, risk free low yield stuff 5% return or a little higher with more risk. That said, yes you need money to make more money. The rich just get richer.

okay, let me re-phrase. If your planning not to move every few years then it makes sense to buy property and take a mortgage out on it. If you do then move after lets say 5-8 years you pay off the current mortgage with the money you make and shift it to the next place of residence. You find a really nice qualified guy like I did who can do absolutely everything on your behalf. The fees are all fixed by law so you can work out pretty much what buying/selling and moving is going to cost you. Bear in mind that the average house owner who rents it out gets their money back in about 240 months. After that it's just profit minus the maintenance costs, repairs, etc... In any case the land (not building) becomes an asset for you to leverage. Buy another property and just rent it out... that's what the majority of well off people in Japan do and seem to spend all their time in the pachinko parlours. Mind you I would personally invest overseas in a tax free haven.

just to add, you can't enforce fashion. You do what you can within the limits of the dress code. With school uniforms you at least down play the limits of fashion and have kids spend too much time deciding what to wear. A uniform just makes it easier as a whole with less distraction. What you do within the realms of that is up to the imagination of the kid. One would think you could subsidize school uniforms considering the sheer volume.

bah, uniforms are too much a part of modern Japanese culture to remove them. Just look at all the anime, managa, music and movies that portray the uniform in many different way. i.e kill bill, sailor moon, sukebann deka, all the idols over the ages, battle royale, etc...
As for the too showing too much, that just comes down to the individual. variations include the culotte or you just wear hot pants, a sport wear and what not. Not a big deal.

this is what happens when you don't have child care services drop by unannounced and with full rights to check out the premises on demand. Any deny would result in the police knocking down the door and removing the child from harms way. Japan is just too "not any of my business", "the parents decide what kind of discipline to use and we can't do anything" which is the attitude for pretty much anything else. Hence kid next door is beaten to death and when asked the neighbor replies that he did hear some loud noises and noticed the kid always seemed to be bleeding from the head with a back eye and limp. But, hey he probably fell off his bike every other day.

If you have access to purchasing property in Japan with a full mortgage then go for it. You won't find a better market in the world with 1% mortgage rates. Even 35 years fixed is in the 3% range. How do people buy property in the UK with rates at 6-8% and 20-25 years to pay off? In any case it is far cheaper (if not works out rent free) to buy property then sell off after a few years. Rent is for suckers...

you can block GPS signals very easily (easier than 3G) and yeap this is a sure way that the individual will find him/herself unable to have a normal relationship with anyone regardless of the type of crime giving them all the more reason to take part in another crime.

Hardly notice the noise, just need to learn to block it out without having to try. I guess this is something you self teach yourself early on. If you can do your homework while watching tv, listening to music, reading a book and talking on the phone at the same time then you should have no problem. Much like studying for an exam in Uni while the people upstairs or next door have a basketball match in their room. The human brain is very sophisticated and can block out meaningless drivel and home in on a word (like the station you get off) in a split second and wake up. How else do you explain how dogs can bare listening to the world go by when you can hear practically everything. My advice by some earplugs or a headset. I'm much more against light pollution where every building is so bright I need to wear sunglasses (trains, convenience stores, super markets, etc)

Was it actually recorded or broadcast live? Big difference if nobody out there actually captured it or not. The biggest problem here is broadcasting via the internet which once unleashed can wreak havoc on P2P sites. If not recordings were made then it comes down to further humilitation by word of mouth, but with no evidence backing up any claim. This happens all the time in school with classmates saying he did who and she did what....
