    dammit

I read this on the BBC website earlier.

But why dollars? Don't these geeks at Associated Press know there are other currencies in the world and the internet is about as multinational as it's possible to get? Dollars my *** dammit!

I see. When I looked at the picture I thought "she's not so attractive so what's the fuss," but after reading the article I see that her facial appearance isn't the problem, it's the fact that she's acting like a scrubber and also neglecting Hachinohe.

Speaking as a woman, if she was truly beautiful I'd hate her and never vote for her. They do say that women are bitchy, and I guess that's true. ;) But as she's just an ordinary-looking scrubber I still hate her - her body's better than mine! Men on the other hand might vote for her if she was beautiful, but how can they vote for someone they can't respect? And no man respects a woman who flaunts her body. They might lust over her, but they'd be more likely to want to comfort her after she fails than to have her in charge. Perhaps if she wears black leather dominatrix gear and stalks around on 6 inch stilettos flicking her whip they'd vote for her?

What's become a dumping ground for old men? The whole Airin district of Osaka? Part of it? What?

Because of Miura’s sudden death, prosecution procedures are expected to be discontinued

Wow, I bet that took them a few hours to figure out.

    wargalley,

Is there a religion, or philosophy in Japanese culture that commiting suicide redeems people for terrible mistakes?

Don't think so, but as Japan isn't a Christian country maybe they don't have the "suicide is a crime against God" notion that people from Christian-rooted countries have?

Anyhow, if he did commit suicide then I don't blame him. Whether he's guilty or not is beside the point in this opinion because the Americans made it clear that they were going to make sure he was convicted regardless. Unless they actually have the gunman who's willing to testify that yes, Miura paid him to do the job then they don't have sufficient proof to make it beyond reasonable doubt, so they might well have failed to get their coveted conviction. Convenient for them then that he appears to have opted out of the trial permanently.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if he was helped, after all, surely cells aren't supposed to have convenient things for people to hang themselves from?

I hate it - and most of the time they don't increase profits that much either, and now most of them are responsible for running their companies into the ground and still they get huge wads of cash! Despicable!

If you look at the official site http://www.kikikanri.biz/english/list.html you'll find it's actually about disater management.

Even Cisco has a booth, and Gore-tex. I'm not wasting my time checking out all of them though, looks truly boring and I have no time to waste!

Trust JT to find a truly weird pic that does nothing to portray the real purpose of the show! What will people do with these rubber weapons anyway? Hit looters on the head with them?

PM; Major quake? Tokyo flattened? Panic? Chuck a few rubber hand grenades! That not working? Deploy the rubber nukes!

Baldrick, cut the crap, it is not legal to have sex with 13 year old girls (or 14 year old ones) anywhere in Japan! Got it yet?

This bloke deserves a nice long sentence - shame it won't be in a suitably "nice" place. The girl(s) may or may not be whores. If yes, it would be nice to see them losing their anonymity over this mess.

At least she gave her back, in a responsible way, without harming her at all.

If anyone stole one of my kids, that's the best outcome I could hope for. But I'd rather it didn't happen at all - when our youngest learns to walk, I have reins in the drawer to snap onto his harness. No wandering off for him - I hope.

Did Ahmadinejad really claim that the American Empire is about to collapse?

Doesn't sound like spiteful rhetoric to me, sounds like a reasonable prediction of the next year or two.

Skipthesong, I thought it was just Israel that Ahmadinejad wants wiped off the face of the Earth? Israel isn't a religion - perhaps I missed something? Wouldn't be the first time. (Incidentally, according to the CIA site the population of Israel is 76.4% Jewish. The rest are mostly Arab. Do you think he literally wants to destroy the entire country with all those Arabs there? Just saying this because you brought up the comments Ahmadinejad has made about Israel - it'll save me wasting time later because if I don't say it now I'm sure I'll feel obliged to when I'm too busy.)

Superlib, if I think it's GWB's fault I'll say so. Regardless of which man happens to be president. Do you think that once he's gone he'll suddenly be blameless for all the crimes he's committed and caused?

USARonin, I've heard it said that Clinton took over a complete mess caused by Bush Senior and then rebuilt the economy. I personally have no opinions on that, I wasn't taking any notice at the time and wouldn't now if the US didn't have a tendency to elect presidents with trigger-happy fingers. But if Bush wrecked the economy, then it would have been his fault that things were wrong, and his fault that Clinton had to take time to rebuild the economy. These mistakes can't be rectified overnight just by putting another man on the 'throne' so to speak.

Is it in any way surprising that Ahmadinejad wasn't impressed? Certainly it doesn't qualify as bad manners to merely give the scumbag the thumbs down. In many countries he would have been heckled and jeered to the point where he lost track of his speech and turned 2 pages by mistake without noticing. That's bad manners.

George W Bush denounced Tehran as a sponsor of global terrorism

So speaks the man who many believe should be tried as a war criminal.

Now if Ahmadinejad had nodded his head to someone who proceeded to blow out GWB's brains, that could potentially be called bad manners. Although some might think it was a really cool action, and they would not all be Muslims.

Borscht is right, when I was little I fell off the top of a slide, maybe about 9 or 10 feet above the ground, landing on my head on hard tarmac. My mum was standing right by the slide, but there was nothing she could do to prevent it.

I still remember thinking she was overreacting as I got up an climbed that ladder again.

Where does it say that the bars had edges that have been phased out of the newer versions? They look as though they just have peeling paint to me, and the article - which is all I have to judge by but may be way off the mark - states that the straps got

    caught on the bars

Says naught there about strange and unusual edges, but maybe the new version of "overhead ladders" don't have rungs, in fact perhaps they don't exist? Then you'd be right in saying that the newer ones would be safer, because if they didn't have any play equipment there'd have been nothing for the poor kid's strap to get caught on.

New and safe stuff, fatloser? How do you think a new overhead ladder would have made such an accident less likely?

And I agree 100% with northlondon that JT is always publishing deliberately inflammatory articles and headlines, precisely for the purpose of getting of us foreigners worked up. I try to ignore it, but I suppose they want to be like the former MDN English pages.

As for the poor kid, I hope she lives, and I also hope she isn't disabled for life by her accident. If only one of her friends had stood beneath her and supported her weight.

Derek Trotter? George Roper? lol! There seem to be unheard of (by me) Brits popping outta the woodwork tonight, innit?! Unheard of on this site anyway - I'm well old enough to recognise the names (unfortunately!)

But George, you screwed up a bit by including a 'strewth' in your posting! Not very British is it? Or maybe it's a symptom of too much neighbours? ; )

Not sure how accurate the bit about free entry to most museums is though, could have sworn quite a few have introduced entry charges over the last few years.

Poor little babe. I just hope that he died of natural and unpreventable causes before he was dumped. Not likely I know, but I can only hope. Even if he was already dead I don't understand how someone could dump their own baby's body, or someone else's baby's body for that matter.

Regarding some of the earlier posts, who says that the mother was the person who dumped the baby? How do you even know that she's not been held prisoner by some weirdo, who decided to dump and kill the child of his rape? How do you know that she didn't die in a bungled home birth, and her boyfriend or whatever didn't panic and dump the baby? I'm not saying that she isn't responsible, but why are some of you so aggressive at assuming she's sick and disgusting, capable of either murdering her baby and dumping him or dumping him and leaving him to die? The fact is that we know very little. When they prove the mother dumped him, THEN pounce on her!

Where I come from it's shamefully traditional to dump unwanted babies in a moses basket on someone's doorstep, although they've been dumped everywhere from dustbins to under a gorsebush on top of a hill where people very rarely go, wrapped in anything from a plastic bag to an old t-shirt. Sometimes they die, other times they're found and saved, (if they were alive when they were dumped that is.)

USNinJapan2, I'm afraid you'll find that there are secret hoards of dead babies being discovered all over the world, not just in Japan. Even in the US. I think the last one I heard of was in Germany? Or somewhere nearby anyway.

2 middle aged men, at least one of whom had a violent temper and the physical capability to use violence against others. Would YOU step close enough to smell their breath? I sure as hell wouldn't. As for monitoring, some patients don't actually need any. Depends on the situation.

Wish it said why they were in hospital, because it's a bit of a confusing story without it. Perhaps they were psychological patients, that would explain the gap in info.
