flatearther at 06:48 PM JST - 30th November @dammit- I don't know where you're from, but in America they do have shelters for battered women to flee to. The murder of two small children is also something not taken lightly, and it usually receives a life sentence as punishment.

I'm from the UK, where they also have shelters for battered women and their children to flee to. Surprisingly, it's not uncommon for the abusers to follow them and continue the abuse, even murdering them, despite the shelter. More often than not that's the woman's fault. They often give out their new address to the abuser, or failing that they give the address to friends without explaining first that disclosure of the new address to anyone else on the planet could result in the abuser murdering them or the kids.

And yes, such a killer in the UK may well receive a life sentence too. Usually these days a life sentence comes with a minimum term tariff. Often people get a life sentence with a minimum term of 10 years for example. This is why I don't take my home country's shelters or prison terms seriously. You shouldn't take the US's seriously either, I'm sure you have similar problems with abusers finding their victims in shelters, and I know they often let out criminals after serving just a fraction of their sentence. (Look at the man who abducted that child with his wife, imprisoning her in their yard for years and fathering kids on her if you need an example of early release.)

But I don't think I made clear in my previous post that although I feel that 17 years (IF served) would be a fairly respectable term considering the sentences some people get away with, I personally feel people like him should be deleted. Painfully.

17 years isn't such a bad sentence for murdering 2 children. I've seen worse back home. Frankly I think the mother deserves more than him for letting him treat her children so badly, I don't care what the situation was for her, there's no excuse. I know there's no real help for families having problems here, but it's like that back home too and I'm sure it's pretty much as bad in most countries. If the nuclear family hadn't been encouraged to disintegrate there would have been her or his parents around to help out when things got rough. Also to point out to this git that his actions were not acceptable.

If only he'd serve every second of his sentence, but he'll probably get out early. It's like that back home too and I'm sick of it. When someone commits an outrageous crime they should serve their entire sentence at the very least.

I approve of tmarie's suggestion of a suitable sentence for him. I'd add that the mother should be treated that way too.

Sounds like some of the media are trying to imply he was out sha**ing the other woman, and upon his return the wife smashed in the window thereby causing him to crash.

Interesting movie outline, and sure to get the gossips going, but it's between him and his wife. If neither of them feels there's a need to report something to the cops then we'll just have to accept that maybe it's the truth. Maybe he took his eyes off the road to switch off a cd or something. That's enough to cause an accident. At least no-one's dead or injured.

But how bizarre that the driver of the only car in a one-vehicle accident doesn't have to make a statement to the cops. Bizarre indeed.

    Suzu1,

The governor of Washington, Christine Gregoire, needs to explain why this man was on the streets after eight felonies in Washington and a recent arrest for child rape.

You're not kidding. And what the heck is second-degree rape of a child? Is it the one where they don't actually murder the child afterwards or what? Why is this man free after his recent crimes? Whether he killed the cops or not he should really be locked up for life after taking the p**s by committing multiple crimes after being freed. But I hope they catch the nutter who did kill the cops, or this could become a regular thing.

College? I thought it was a university. But either way, this must be one useless institution if the best attraction for new students they can come up with is a junkie. Perhaps they'd do even better if they could attract Polanski as a student? He's popular in France or so they say, Gunma university could offer online classes in French or something. Or even better, they might get Ichihashi as a new student. Then they could do online classes in divvy Japanese for all the airheads they'd attract.

Yes, this is such a stupid situation that sarcasm is the best I can do. It's not even worth getting angry over so I'm not going to bother insulting anyone.

Kokorocloud, I think it's because he was involved in the holocaust as a kid, not because of his crappy films. But yes, it seems some people want to let him get away with paedophilia and child rape. Amazing really, and there are even some people on this board who seem to agree with it. Don't see posts from them here yet though.

I also won't be surprised if he escapes. It's asking for trouble letting him live there, he'll probably swap places with one of the delivery people. It's traditional. Even toad of toad hall did it.

I've never come across the 'we won't sit next to a gaijin' syndrome either, but maybe that's because I never travel by train alone? I'm always with at least one of the kids, and sometimes my Japanese hubby too, so perhaps I'm not so threatening as a younger, sleeker, solitary gaijin giving out vibes of confidence? Just looking at the bright side there, otherwise I'd suggest giving out fumes from both ends or something.

LOL at Yelnats claims of his new look! If only it was true, we'd be able to spot him a mile off. Funny thought though, and I can guarantee it would work in most countries. Especially this one, and even if it was a Japanese person with shaved head, beer can, fag, dirty bag & toothpick. Hell, he'd scare me away for sure!

Otani was quoted by police as saying that he didn’t know there were traffic lights there.

Really? Maybe he'd been out of the area for a while, and didn't know they'd been put up, but really? He expects us to believe that if he knew the lights were there he'd have stopped, but because he was too daft to notice them he thought he'd just run over the schoolboys instead? Either he's few carnations short of a bouquet or he just doesn't care about anyone else. Either way, ban him at the very least. I hope the boys recover fully, and quickly.

    Stupid man.

MoBass4u, shame and rejection surely have nothing to do with it. If this was in any western country you wouldn't come out with such tosh, so please don't make such judgements about Japan and the Japanese. People who do this sort of thing are basically abnormal and psychotic. Regardless of nationality. Remember that she wanted to leave him, odds are he was giving out bad vibes because of his mental instability. People like that usually do, and eventually even the most thick-skinned person starts to feel their skin crawl when they look into the eyes of madness.

But why was she in his flat? She'd left him, right? Did he invite her up to collect her belongings and she went alone? Or did she lose her mind and take the violent scumbag back into her arms? Either way, bad choice and I hope she comes through as unscathed as possible. Glad he's dead, saves a lot of trouble for all, and a lot of expense too on what would have been his trial.

I'm not sure when in October this happened exactly, and I can't remember the image precisely because of all the other murders and murderers being caught, but I hope he gets caught too. And strung up hopefully. There's too much tragedy in this world even without the nut-jobs going around torturing and murdering people.

I'm not sure I believe in such a condition as a vegetative state now.

This sort of thing happens too often, I've read of many cases.

Makes me wonder what that US woman felt, hearing people talking about killing her off. Maybe she eventually felt it would be for the best, she couldn't communicate or do anything except think. But maybe she was still screaming in her head when she finally expired. The whole situation makes me feel really scared of something like that happening to me or a loved one. But if you have to fight for proper medical assessment, how can these things be avoided?

flatearther, never mind the book profits, what about the compensation? He's been neglected for 23 years by so-called medical professionals, who ignored improvements in technology and diagnosis methods that might have spared him many years of suffering in silence. How much are they going to pay?

    Well said.

Especially the parts about priority seats and people sleeping on your shoulder. I've shoved them the other way in my time, the alternative being to suddenly stand up so they fall sideways. I've never seen a man shaving on a train though, but whenever I see a woman putting on her face I hope the train will jerk unexpectedly so I can see how much mess her mascara or lipstick make when streaked across her face. Unfortunately they seem capable of avoiding such mishaps though. Shame.

When it comes to priority seats, I feel that the class of person who sits in them despite being perfectly healthy, fit, and able, is just the sort of person who would refuse to give up their seat to someone in need, and also the sort of person who would use their mobile phone despite clear signs telling them not to. No surprise that it happens all the time then. But the people in the normal seats are actually more likely to give up their seat to someone in more need, as happened to me frequently when I was pregnant. I never bothered going near the full priority seats as I know what people there are like, but standing in front of a young lady in a normal seat always resulted in her jumping up and kindly offering me her seat. Very nice of them I must say.

The thing he forgets to mention is that Japanese people force their way onto trains that are already dangerously full. I really hate that, and refuse to go near a train in rush hour because it's just plain rude and nasty.

What a mess she looks. Her hair and that dead animal meld into one tangled eyesore that makes her look like anything but the celebrity who looks the most gorgeous in a corpse.

What sort of person do they hope will buy their nasty little short-in-the-sleeve jackets? Homeless drop-outs? Junkies? They're the only people I can think of who might aspire to that sort of mangled-mess image. Sorry, and I guess she's very pretty, but all I can see is a mess.

Put various food stalls outside his window. Different ones every day. Ones with strong food smells to make his rancid mouth water. Put cooking shows on a tv in the room he's in for 18 hours a day. Eat food in front of him, but not in an exaggerated way, just a normal way. And make sure he can actually help himself to food during the day.

Happy though the thought of him starving painfully to death makes me, I'd rather give him a chance to incriminate himself by trying to make feeble excuses. He's bound to put his foot in it once he starts talking, which is the main reason for his silence. (That and the fact that he's sulking, of course.) If he starves to death that's up to him, but make it as hard and long-drawn-out as possible.

If he insists on a self-inflicted death sentence, make it his own fault. And video him 24/7, never mind just during interrogations. If he does kill himself it'll help exonerate the cops from blame.

Majimekun has a point. But those images reminded me of Michael Jackson you know, too chiseled for nature I suppose.

I'd like to see the rest of his face. I'm sure he can't be that different from the neanderthal mug-shot, it was just the lighting and the camera angle that gave him that strangely chiseled look I guess.

Roll on pics of Ichihashi looking less than attractive please! Maybe he'll attract less airheads if he looks like the back end of a cow.

    DickMorris (again),

It has been said by many experts that heart disease and cancer were almost non existent before modern times.

That's mostly nonsense. Most people rarely lived long enough to get that ill, and if they did they couldn't afford a doctor who might diagnose them. There were no autopsies to find out why poor people died either, although their bodies might have been used illegally for training medics but the results could hardly be used for official purposes and they were only really interested in finding out where all the bits went. Other people might possibly be able to afford a doctor, but the odds were that he would just be a quack and stick a couple of leeches on them for a few hours. Cancers sometimes can't be diagnosed until after death anyway, and heart attacks were far more likely to kill then than now.

And if you can accept that one of your views on humans was wrong why are you so sure of anything else? If you really want to look at it with an open mind listen to those of us who point out that people died young in years gone by, often too young to develop these diseases. But there are many cases in history of people who did, so what's the point in denying it?

Those who say it's because of meat may well be right. But I'm sure lots of other things make it worse too, including DickMorris's pet hates. You're right in many ways Dick. But if people back then lived as long as us, and had the technology we had, maybe we'd know a bit more accurately what ailed them. I wasn't having a go at you by the way, I was actually quite surprised and interested. Still am. And I do agree with you that modern ways are making it worse.

    DickMorris,

I read a few times that heart disease and certain cancers began in the 20th century.

Where did you read that? I find it as interesting as the heart disease in the mummies actually. Cancers and heart disease have been killing people probably since before we evolved into humans. (Kinda like the chicken and the egg, our species was already around before it finished up as this bunch of feeble nut-jobs who can't even cope with the common cold half the time.) I had absolutely no idea that there were people in the world so deluded that the old days were so healthy that they were prepared to write such drivvle. Tell me please, was it on the net or - worse - on paper? I like to know such things, it helps sort out factual literature from nonsense.

Gross. I'll admit that the images they've shown of him on tv most definitely show his 'good' side. But these are just the sort of people who always fantasize about shagging a man who's dangerous. Not normally dangerous enough to kill them of course, although even then there are exceptions, but just dangerous enough to make sex thrilling.

They're delusional of course. But they won't believe it unless he's actually in the process of murdering them. Lucky for them if he doesn't get the chance. But if he doesn't starve himself or hang himself we might have to suffer the horrors of him marrying one of them. More fool her.

Women who do this usually believe they'd be in control of the murderer. He'd be dangerous, but she'd be strong enough to make sure he didn't go too far with things. But those women usually find out they were mistaken. A psycho is a psycho, and not a lap-dog.

I think he just doesn't want them looking at him with 'failure of a son' written all over their faces, and 'waste of space' shining from their eyes.

Would anyone want their parents looking at them like that? I wouldn't.

As for his lawyers blabbing, I'd assume they've discussed things with him and told him they won't blab things that they think will make him look worse, or things he tells them not to blab.

Sugeno said Ichihashi still hasn’t spoken about the incident

Who knows, maybe he's really already told them the gory details so they can help him make up excuses and lies? That's what defense lawyers are for isn't it? (Or maybe that's for the next session.)

both his parents were medical professionals but that he failed to become one.

That's the beginning of some sort of obsessive/failure insanity plea. Once more, that's what defense lawyers are for isn't it.

I'll add my voice to those saying all interviews should be videoed, and Ichihashi should not be treated better than everyone else.
