Re the badge kissing. Having those supporters turn up to welcome you to the club like that, its just something to show that you appreciate them. Its no insult to the teams he played for in the past. Re not going back to Yokohama, he can go back at 33, a few million euros richer, having tested himself in a top league. The fact that he was even considering coming back now is surprising. He will play against the likes of Messi and Kaka next year, its not just about money.

That's right, poverty is enslaving, and potentially a quick road to an early death. The article might have worked with a living frugally in the 50s type analogy, but a guy who lived in a grass hut, that's stretching it to the point of absurdity.

"Punter" is also slang for any type of customer in the UK. Also very often used to refer to the customer of a prostitute, equivalent to "john" in the US.

In harsh times employees might ask "what more can I do?" to keep the company going and therefore still have jobs. If the company survives, things pick up and become profitable, management will surely ask employees "what more can I do to improve your working conditions, work/life balance, and welfare of your family?". I am out of touch with corporate reality but I guess that's how it works.

There are all sorts of people you could exclude on a moral basis, but that's not the point. Point is whether it will work as an economic stimulus. If they really want it to work, give it only to temporary workers who lost their jobs in the last year - those people have to spend the money, as they have none.

It looks normal outside. For supporting data its better to look a unemployment or sales figures.
That will make the recession worse. If you have money, spend spend spend. If you don't have money, borrow some and then spend spend spend.
