The Japanese troops (And I've met many) are utter gentlemen compared to the American ones. They are far more integrated with the community than the Americans, who very rarely learn even basic Japanese, much less carry yen instead of dollars.

I was there today. Some of these comments are ignorant/offensive. The place is called "peace park", and the names of Okinawan, Japanese and Americans are all written there. It's not about any type of nationalism/patriotism.

Japan doesn't talk about the suicide, because it has been working hard to write it…

    Thanks Rainrain for your comedy.

Yeah, Japan shouldn't have occupied China. In the same way, China shouldn't have occupied Tibet. Why does China act like an abused child, doing what was done to it? Nationalism is a plague on civilizaton. Grow up.

Is Jp language study really getting popular abroad or is it only being studied more in countries like China? It's actually really getting popular abroad. Like the article says, anime and pop culture is booming in the West. Manga is eclipsing Western comics, the internet lets people buy/read about whatever...…

Hey, America needs private beaches in foreign lands... Seriously, Okinawa is pretty much an American playground. If they focused on business instead of pleasure, there'd be few complaints.

As for that golf course on Kadena, I've never seen a Japanese person playing, so I'll have to take your word on…

You do realize all you have to do is change military to english teachers and your percentage and point would be exactly the same.

Not quite true, I'd change that to about 50%. (I've met sleazy English teachers, but nowhere near 80%). The important thing is that the Japanese government…

When I saw that there was a golf course on Okinawa, was about the time that I got offended by the bases here. America taking land for training and defense is one thing, but building golf courses is a new level of 'in your face' (the Kadena one is viewable…

The bottom line is that America chooses the military who live in Japan, not Japan. Anything they do is going to be magnified. I've met lots of military in my time here, and most were interested in getting wasted and laid (about 80%). I don't think the men in the…
