This is an interesting statement. In Western countries, companies have rights as if they were people. If we are consistent, either religious should be considered as having rights like companies do, or companies should have no rights, only the owners and workers within a company. Just an interesting thought.

Three-quarters of all civilian deaths in Afghanistan are at the hands of the Taliban. I hope for the sake of the Afghan people that this road makes it easier to bring order to the countryside and allow the Afghans to enjoy some of the peace we sometimes take for granted.

Sigh. The ability of some to base their views on pure speculation over actual examples of outcomes elsewhere astounds me sometimes. Where does this sheep mentality come from? If the right person on TV or radio says something with the right amount of 'outrage', will everyone believe it, despite there being evidence and examples against it? Apparently so.

Yeah, let them all die. They deserve it, don't they. Remember that hamburger you had last week? Does that mean you go on that list too? Don't let anyone ever accuse Americans of giving a damn about anyone but themselves.
What utter rubbish. We have government health-care here. The private companies are doing very well. They offer shorter waiting lists, choice of hospital and other things the government don't. As a result of offering good services, they get the customers. It's call business. If they can't compete with a basic community safety net, then perhaps they don't deserve to be in business.

At least they don't stop for a meeting after every tackle. :)
Well done to the All Blacks. When they're playing well, it's good for rugby (though not so good for the other teams).

Did Microsoft ever improve on their DOS OS? Personally, I try to avoid as much contact with Microsoft as I can. Not easy, I must admit, but I try.

Well, taking into account a 2005 study that showed about half of bankruptcies in the US are caused by debt resulting from medical bills and most of those were from your "average Joe" demographic (google Himmelstein's study). More recent data shows that 1 in every 92 homeowners have been forced to foreclose on their homes, and of those, a quarter will be due to medical bill debt (http://works.bepress.com/christopher_robertson/2/). That means about 1 in every 350 homes will be sold from under a family's feet so as to settle medical bills. This has a huge flow-on cost to the US economy. This isn't illegal workers or lazy layabouts we're talking about here, but average Americans.
The whole "I'm not paying for some lazy, disease-ridden illegal alien's healthcare" argument really is just a huge strawman argument. But hey, who am I to argue if you want keep rolling the dice and hoping you don't get rolled by the system. In my country we have a national healthcare system and the total number of people here who've lost their houses due to medical bills.... zero. I personally take out private healthcare because the private companies offer me extras that the government system doesn't. It's called competition. Companies offer services that people want and they do well. That's the way things work.

I remember when they claimed several tens of thousands of members in Australia, then someone produced the census data that showed only 270 or so people wrote "$cientology" as their religion. It's a complete scam and the French courts findings are justified. At least they, unlike the US government, stand up to these types of scams.

At least you can type in those letters using your keyboard and thus access the page. If the page name is in a script you don't have the font for on the computer you use at the library or at school, you can't access it at all. Even if you can't read it, it means you can't even run it through Google translator. The internet then starts to get a bunch of small, closed rooms rather than one big, open room.
The only way this will work well is if the multi-script address map back to one single name. For example, if www.今日.co.jp could also be accessible through www.kiyou.co.jp or the Arabic or Korean equivalents etc.

So what the advertising is saying is that Windows 7 will be as big, unwieldy and useless as a Whopper with 7 beef patties? Is that the image they really want to give their new operating system?

Oh, and just to add to this, there were another 4 men involved with this who pleaded guilty, so there were a total of 9 all up, but only 5 went to trial. This information has only been released to the media today, after the trial was over, once again to not unduly influence the jury. I must admit that if I were on the jury and knew 4 others in their group had already pleaded guilty, it would certainly influence me to put these other 5 away...

Yes, that is all media outlets. The reason for this is that there is still an on-going trial/investigation in Victoria and the release of their names may unduly influence that case and let those people off. From what I understand, once that case is over and done with, the media will be free to report the names of those convicted.

For me, I really hate when some people who don't say "long time no see" think that therefore no one else on the planet must say it. It's a common phrase that I hear a lot (yes, by native speakers in a native-English country).
I dislike "tabun" in Japanese. All I really want is a yes or a no.
In English, it's "pwnd" or whatever alternative spelling (or misspelling is used).

I remember when this happened. He did it, then turned himself in to the police not too long after, if I remember right, totally distraught. I don't know if it was anger management problems or mental illness, but anyone who could do this would need to be checked for mental illness. This sort of thing is beyond a well person. Anyone who could do that and not be ill really does deserve all of the things people above have said... (and know, I'm not saying it's an excuse, nothing could excuse what he did)
