"She was brainwashed, just being immersed in the communist society"

She very likely had socialist leanings before leaving. What hope would she have had in 'McArthyist' America? From her perspective, getting out was probably the only realistic choice and bearing in mind the venom there still seems to be, she…

"She went to live with our enemy of ht time. How can you trust a person who has such morals?"

Perhaps you couldnt trust her. However, perhaps she found the nuclear arms build up abhorrant and saw farming in China as more in tune with her morals. Political systems aside,…

Its a good thing that Japan can attract these skilled workers to service its population. I hope the Japanese government isnt adding to the skills drain and helps the Indonesians fund training for their replacements back home.

faulkmore - we'll see, for the sake of the workers families I hope youre right. However, Japan is a signatory to the ILO workplace safety conventions and has them written into domestic law. If the company can demonstrate the sewer workers were well trained but werent careful for their own…

Asia is still relatively unstable and Japan has shown it can take responsibility for itself by constantly increasing it's own self defense burden. However, Japan is also wise to continue to engage in the policy of 'collective defense'. Having foreign troops on your soil is the clearest statement of solidarity.…

Sad thing about this demonstration of poor health & safety culture is that if the workers were aware of the weather situation, legally speaking they had a responsibility to refuse to work in the sewer. It's likely the company will get away with it.

I think its unlikely the students will get to Hiroshima without delving into some books beforehand and I doubt very much that their teachers will allow the students a one sided interpretation.

Looking around at some of the comments on this discussion group, in my opinion a lesson in 'isnt…
