I remembered discussing this issue with some of my western friends. I was very surprised when they all but totally dismissed the possibility that AIDS was a problem here and possibly a growing one, I was taken aback, couldn't believe it. There is the perception by many of us that Japan is super safe in all aspects of life. We, should all be careful, wherever we are.

JET is not that bad....when I think of what this same job would be worth in my home counry. I also manage to get through to my kids without being overly genki....they just have to accept that I am different from the others they have had, but that I still have alot to offer. Less 'genkiness' plus professionalism plus genuine care gets me the same results as a 'super genki'. As stated by almondjoy....never a career choice.

Japanese women have nice skin? Maybe I have been missing something these past decades...

@ realist. I have to agree that they do have kinda nice skin.....BUT it seems it is so much easier for things to go wrong with it. I see too many with blotches here and there, entire raw areas, discolorations etc. So I guess its nice but not strong....if that is term for describing skin.

@Love USA. Most gaijin do not have a liking for ill fitting women's denim with crotches that make you wonder if the women here have a...'you know what'. Our bodies are very different. Most shops offer different sizes yeah!! but all the same length. Not every one is of a 5 feet 3 and below stature, hell there are Jap women taller than I am at 5'9, I often want to ask them where they shop. There are over 80 of us gaijins in my little neck of the city I live in....almost almost all of whom have difficulty with denim etc. We have to depend on our folks back in the States etc to send us jeans. While 80 foreigners is a small amount, I say better small profit than no profit. Can you imagine if at least one shop had our sizes??? And some of the prices are way too expensive....small profit better than none.

Get sizes suitable for gaijins and you will be assured of some increase in your sales. Most of us have to import our denim.

Ok, is this questsion general or is it about Japanese? If this is a general question then I would definitely say the women are more selective. In Japan, the man is super selective. For a man, the following things must often be the case (there are a few J men who are different).....the woman must be shorter than he is, she must be under 25, 30plus year olds are almost viewed as lepers, so are divorced or single moms, her personality must be one of a docile nature, too much strength can be problematic, a gaijin...esp Of darker skin of whatever nationality, maybe NEVER and as much as they like to stare at boobs and a good behind she had better not be too voluptuous, an emacited appearance seems to be ok for some. I heard this Japanese teacher tell a friend of mine that he did not date a particular J woman because he did not like her chin. ha ha. I dont think you can get more selective than that.

The true fact is that in the U.S., we have a naive President who thinks more of himself that the rest of the world does.

@mtimjones In addition, the US is a country that thinks more of itself than the world does. Not everyone is awestruck by our great country.

Has anyone noticed the steady increase of Japanese /gaijin divorces? Someone needs to do a study to ascertain the causes. Its cause for concern, maybe most Japanese just cannot coexist on any long term basis with a foreigner. Do they have pre-marital councilling? Or do both parties go into the marriage with just stars and rainbows in their eyes? This is too much now. I have a student in my class that is going through the same thing. He is in limbo and is totally being shunned by his classmates because he is 'mixed' as they like to call him. He really wants to be with his American dad, and wants to go back to America.....you know how the rest goes.

More family friendly working hours would be great. Ban staying at the office until midnight and beyond. Send people home to their families!!!!!

The board member also said one of the boy’s teachers noticed last month that the boy’s concentration levels were down and that he appeared agitated at times.

What did the teachers/councillors do about this?? Intervention would have been good.

I wonder what the flip side of this survey would show??? How is Japan rated as a tourist destination in comparison to all other countries of interest.

The fact of the matter, the biggest part of this matter is THE CHILD WAS WALKING BEHIND HER MOTHER. In tis case the mother should have been the one injured and she would have probably survived. God I am sick of this type of neglect. Damn man.
