Defense Secretary Robert Gates has warned that U.S.-led forces must demonstrate progress in Afghanistan by next summer or face a public perception that the conflict cannot be won. Heavy losses this month have already triggered a public debate in Britain that the war in Afghanistan may not be worth the price.
FAce saving. If NATO failed in afghanistan ,other rising power like China will challenging the western dominaces of world power, that was the true intentions of Mr. Gates believes!

I want to say my gratitues to all servicemen who mrach for their duties to protect Han Chinese people who deserved a better living in Xinjiang. They have been sacrificing to much blood and sweats to build a modernrized Xinjiang which helping those Uighars merging into China. It was that ETIM(East Turkishstan Indepenece movement) a terrorists org. defined by United nations provokoing an ethnic war! It was an intelligence failure that couldnt prevent and causing this tragedy, otherwise those bandits were 'liquidated'long before they can roll!

But many Chinese believe the Uighurs are backward and ungrateful for the economic development the Chinese have brought to the poor region.

Critics say the millions of Han Chinese who have settled here in recent years are gradually squeezing the Turkic people out of their homeland.
That was a complete groundless accusation. Xinjiang was China's land and of course Chinese has the right to settle there to live, ethnics difference wasnt an issue to argur over this. That was a discrimination of Han chinese people! Take a simple annalogy:Jews from Russia has the right to live in west bank since there was israel's land(western countries'view over middleeast affairs)...then why Chinese people cannot living in Xinjiang or Tibet? That was also our land flying our flag! It was just a safe haven for some troublrmakers to justified sabotages and defaming China!

Good job, another swift and quick police actions! Urumuqi was run by hardd working Chinese people, there was no discriminations whatsoever claimed by those uyghurs. The poverty of those minorities was the cause of their own unwillingless to work and cooperate but blaming Han Chinese people stealing their land. That was unfair to China or Han Chinese peolple. If those uygurs wants to have the same life they need to work to learn and giving contributions to the society instead of meaningless blaming!
