As for this Filipino family, I have sympathy for them (even the parents) but they are not even asylum seekers and if it were an equivalent case in Britain they would have zero chance of being granted "leave to remain".

(That's not to say that they shouldn't be punished for their crime. Do prison time, pay a fine, whatever, but allow them to apply for residency simply on the merits of having been here for such a long time. )
