Well, I'm afraid he was very much alone in this battle... Unfortunately Japan's right wing orientation means that big corporations with big money will always push for nuclear, at the expense of the little citizen... Remember how Kan itself was criticized by even his own party when he stated Japan should lose all nuclear plants and refocus on green technologies...

Also remember the complains the average Japanese persons had in 2010, when informed that introducing solar panel subsidies will mean that every household's electricity expense will increase by the ginormous amount of 30 yen/month ? They don't care, don't want to know, and don't want to pay extra,,,Unfortunately Fukushima was a tough wake-up call and a slap in the face (kick in the groins?) at the same time for both the industries and for the citizens...

USN - Foxconn is a proven polluter, their factories run with minimal exhaust gases filtering. There are hundreds of cases of people sickened by those gases, all covered up by the government and Foxconn, and all while Apple turns a blind eye to it. If they claim they didn't know about it they are simply lying. Apple simply can not afford to enforce their own environmental standards on their suppliers, due to the massive costs involved... all this while claiming they do care about the environment.

THAT'S WHY I never buy ANYTHING made in china, the costs are cheap because human life and environment is cheap over there...

Could the pilot make the argument that he accidentally took the photo?

Haha - He was caught with his hand down her skirt, holding a camera and taking pictures... That argument is like a murderer saying: I accidentally stabbed somebody 15 times...

DentShop - I doubt you won't be charged with something in Australia if getting caught while purposefully placing a camera under a woman's skirt and taking a picture of whatever is there... It is at least a public nuisance... If you take a panorama shot and somebody's underwear is showing (by chance, no purpose provable) you did not create any nuisance now, did you? This can easily happen at stadiums, sport halls, etc, and nobody really cares about. If you use a 800mm zoom and your camera is full of girls' underwear shots, it's a bit different, don't you think?

As a private pilot myself,I am ashamed of these fellow airmen behavior... Working at JAL must be really stressful if these guys resort to such things...

The saddest part is that pilots usually have no problems into attracting the opposite sex, but these two were obviously not interested into real women, but only their underwear...

nec123 - spot on but... If someone, out of boredom would rape and kill your wife, then do the same to your kids, wouldn't you feel a bit thirsty? Wouldn't you want that person legally killed in the most inhumane way possible?

If you answer is: No, my reply is: how do you know it? Hopefully you never experience such awful things, but unfortunately some people do.

Think a bit for the victim's families as well.

I have seen very high level foreign managers of foreign companies taking out their cellphones and snapping pictures of food they were served... Definitely not only a Japanese thing, therefore bad question, JT...

He did the right thing, and this shows professionalism. He should not forget the glasses next time though. Better be late than have an accident.

If he just started wearing glasses it is easy to see how this could happen. We are all humans.

Realdoll - first his mother is a famous Romanian sportswoman (javelin). Second-the rest of your comment deserves to be banned or erased from this forum. If you only look as his body you'll know it took years and years of sweating, hard work and teeth clenching in pain. That's at least something to admire, not to bash. I'm not even sure genetics played any role, but if they did, well, that's even better for him and Japan now, isn't it.

Asagao - where do you get your information yourself? Chernobyl was very nasty because it used graphite as moderator - which basically burned and emanated a LOT of radiation...

smithinjapan - of course there are paramedics and emergency response teams in Japan. Their job is the same as everywhere in the civilized world... Sometimes the victim LOOKS like being already dead at arrival in the emergency sections, and they miraculously manage to revive them and they survive thanks to the effort of these teams. On the way to the hospital usually the efforts to resuscitate are still ongoing, and most of the time, even if it looks futile, these efforts will continue for a while (usually until the hospital room is reached and the final decision can be made).

That's why most of the time you will see victims pronounced dead at the hospital.

They were never away in Japan. Many girls/ladies wear them and I must say it looks very good... Nevertheless, I prefer looking at both naked and dressed legs...

having a 5.8 in East USA is surely more dangerous than a 7.0 anywhere in Japan... The last line tells it all: "we don't have earthquakes here" - the buildings will crack and collapse, and many already show a lot of damage...

If anyone is a good replacement, then it would be either Maehara or Edano. Both are quite strong, although Edano is unfortunately not in the same party rank with Maehara and Kan, he would have been a very good leader.

Europe is such a contrasting place. On one hand they consider themselves the origin of modern civilisation, as we know it now, on the other hand they actually are the uncivilized barbarians (nan-banjin) Japanese described 2-3 centuries ago.

Soccer games attract the lowest of the low, and I feel this is so much more true in the "civilized" Western Europe...

I have flex time, but I'm working in a foreign company in Japan. My neighbours's (shufu) wifes are all in shock when they see me arriving back from home a 4pm. Starting working at 7am is very good, as you avoid all the crappy traffic and the heat, and the trains back al practically empty.
