well, one can only hold it so much... If it was simply an accident, he'll be freed in no time. I sometimes saw salarymans peeing in the rubber tunnel that connects the train cars - man that's risky - one can get electrocuted from this.

Why don't they have more trains with onboard toilets here? Especially if one has to go during the last train, the risk is to have to spend the night on a very comfortable station bench.

kirakira25 - haha - Japanese really love to compare bodies (body parts) don't they? It's the same for males :)))

Don't worry, for them talking about or looking at somebody else's body is far more natural and normal than for gaijins. Probably they don't even notice they embarrass you so much, otherwise they will soon be quick to look away. If you'd say something like "Chotto - hazukashii kedo" - I'm sure they'll stop staring at you immediately, but don't be surprised if they start asking questions about various parts and tools sizes...

For gaijin, being nude in front of the same sex is embarrassing, especially for men.

Oh - by the way - you should try the next (for pros) level, the "Konyoku" then that is - mixed onsen. It is exactly like the segregated one, except it is not segregated. Although I'm an European gaijin (male), I got used pretty quick and learned to ignore everybody else (yup - male OR female)...

Actually I never had any issues with my or others' nudity.

The most interesting discussion I've had with Japanese persons were while bathing nacked and drinking lots of sake - they really open up and are usually very friendly.

Regarding the angry guy in the restaurant story - I think the guy is right... If he sees the show where they heavily advertise that place, with delicious dishes costing only a few hundred yens and he later decides to actually try it by himself only to hear that those were actually plain lies done for the terebi camera, he has the right to be angry.

It is called false advertising, punishable by law in any country.

I once complained in the Spanish restaurant in Ikebukuro. The were offering some Spanish cheese variety and we've got was "baby" cheese probably costing less than 10% of what the original one would cost. I think they though we wouldn't know the difference. I asked the waiter what cheese is what they served us, paid for what we ordered without waiting to be served and got the hell out of the place.

I'm not American, but I'm still impressed (negatively) by the lack of comments on this article.

I thinks there are light years (to stay in science terms) between George "the ChimpFace" Bush and Obama.

Would certainly like to meet the later someday :).

mike - you're right.. For once, I myself enjoy the Christmas lights (although I'm not a Christian myself), without having to think about the CO2 emmited in the process.

Riight - now he's in Japan? I illegally downloaded his movies, and did read one of his books (tachiyomi style). I'm afraid that paying for anything he produces is against the very principles he promotes :).

Agree with the Obama comments - now that George "The Idiot" Bush is OOtOO (Out Of the Oval Office), whom can Moore bash at? Japan?

I&m a man, I never give my seat to gum chewing 20's or something girls typing things on her cell phone but (perhaps letting her stand will fill her head with something more than air to pop her gum)...

Usually I'm the only guy in the train offering my seat to pregnant ladies (and usually they accept, except when they are sick from sitting)

I'm the only guy even noticing there is a pregnant lady (as all others are too busy reading porn on their cell phones and kiddie manga).

I'd say boys can get much better together than girls. In every communal living situations I've been (even living next doors to girls rooms), girls used to fight and have conflicts much more often than us, boys...(that is, no one cares about the toilet seat or the hair in the shower and when we clean the rooms (once a week usually) everyone gives a hand...

Ohooh--I used to take theis old 747 :) on this route - what an experience!!

The toilets were old style (water latrines, with no high pressure evacuation) and one can imagine the smells aboard every time the air pressure changed (while climbing)...

Looking forward to fly in the new bird though...

US is actually right on this one.

Japan is supposed to be a peace loving country, and surely should not do any business with a nuclear oriented Iran. Japan is really quick to complain about nuclear proliferation, how about also acting accordingly? I guess it is difficult to resist the cheap prices Iran offers, nuclear bombs or not...

OK - I actually bit the bullet, bent over and bought one - took 17 hours to deliver from Amazon, and yesterday I actually sharpened one of my knives with it... All the nicks are completely gone, and it cuts like a razor. It is electric and the diamond tools (two small disks) are actually kind of silvery and sparkling shiny... As a result, there is a very fine powder (like talcum) after you finished sharpening the knife

Klein2 - I guess you never used a ceramic knife before. For your information - it will simply destroy your 100 Yen steel knife sharpener. Ceramic knives can only be sharpened by diamond, and this is actually the first consumer grade sharpener product I know of. Until now I always had to send my ceramic knives to Kyocera for sharpening (once every 2-3 years, or so)

PleasureGelf - of course it has everything to do with this topic - like somebody else said already, there is absolutely no reason businesses shoud stick with the buggy vulnerable Microsoft products, especially when you could get much better ones for free. And no, Microsoft should not have released this stupid antivirus, BUT should have improved their systems to such extent that it does not need and antivirus to begin with.
