ANOTSUSAGAMI - you already wasted our time, so please waste a breadth and tell us all what the heck is wrong with the commercial? WHAT? How is he offending anyone (except crazy paranoics) by wearing an Afro-like wig, or if the wig becomes a turban while eating I-don't-know-what curry?

Graduates - don't worry - he'll send you to the war WITH a cause, but that wouldn't matter for those who die there, anyway. It doesn't have to be a good cause anyway.

nisegaijin, you obviously (and again) don't know what you're talking about.. BMW had a sales drop of about 35-40% and I'm sure they lost a big amount of money on their Japanese business.

Weasel - no - you can't buy this in Ikea - what you can buy is a squicky made in Chin-am-wan with extremly poor quality you'd have to build yourself. I did the same mistake for our bed and I won't repeat it in this life.

Agree with the first poster - tattoo a bar-code on my forehead and my a$$, and then shoot a microchip in the back of my head, where you store my entire family tree. Then claim you are a very modern country - who just managed to get out of the 18th century. For all that matters, I am a permanent resident paying a higher tax than what 75% of the Japanese employees pay.

LostinNagoya - I can assure you the Japanese drivers are better than US ones (of course, in average). They usually know how to side- and back park, and they are usually careful while doing it as well. Unfortunately it is impossible to see a small child behind your car and most cheap Japanese car don't have any sonar or camera systems (although camera systems are getting more common now due to decreasing prices). The only way to do it safely is to back REALLY SLOW (so slow that even if you touch a small child she/he will still have time to escape - 1-3 km/h max.). Perhaps I look silly doing this, but I prefer being silly instead of injuring someone, especially in a children populated area (school parking or restaurant parking lots).

It sooo needs some more pictures of Kyoto - otherwise, very nicely written and interesting read.

unscrejects - May I guess that you don't really travel much now, do you? I travel A LOT and Narita is among my top 3 favorites. You can't really choose the best (they all have goods and some bads) but Narita is really at the very top, where only a few other good airports are are. The location, I agree is not good, but the people working there can't really change this. Otherwise I really don't have anything to complain about Narita, like I said, one of the very best.

neverknow2 - remember - the statue of liberty in new york isn't the only one made by the french. I'm not sure, but I've heard that the one in Odaiba is also made as a present from France - is this right?

Mexicano - I also drive myself, and agree - it's scary - people literally jump in front of cars out of nowhere...
I always use my horn on them.
They always walk away like little children scolded by their mothers for being bad - not even apologizing - this means they know they were doing something bad and still doing it... If I hit one of them with my almost 2 ton car, even at 35 km/h they have little chance of survival...

Good riddance. I hate her sportsmanship (shouting after each and every ball she wins). Not fair-play at all. Good picture though.

I bet none of the critics actually eat rice daily, and more, they don&t have the chance to taste rice made in a proper way in a really nice cooker. I used to think the same "rice is rice, it doesn't matter how you make it" until my 5000 Yen cooker broke and I had replaced it with a 30000 yen one (yes, a pretty nice one, with induction cooking).
Believe it or not, the rice made in the new cooker tastes much better (sweeter and I can detect some distinct aroma in it.
Unfortunately, I think it takes more than 5 years of daily rice eating for one to be able to distinguish the difference between properly cooked expensive rice (Niigata's Koshihikari for ex.) and ordinary rice cooked in a cheap cooker.

mexicano - strange - the ramen shop at the summit actually has very acceptable prices, much lover than the prices at various stations on the way up :)).

Sorry I still have to see cirque du soleil. You can check various youtube shows with BMG and then multiply that by 100X and that's how the live show was for me :). It it very interesting if you like good percusion music (played at completely original instruments).

I recommend everyone to see one of Blue Man Group's shows (they are in Roppongi). Really they are the best - combining extremely highly skilled drumming, human society critique and observation, pantomime and many others. They are in the "must see again" category for me :).

the 600 yen bowl of ramen I had at the summit was the BEST EVER. At that altitude water boils much lower than 100C, and you get your ramen still boiling :)/

dennins - for your information "WE" launched a sh#tload of military satellites, and I can't see what kind of "peace" are those supposed to represent. NK's skies are always scanned and observed by those satellites. So "we" - whichever "we" are - don't launch only in the name of peace.
