Oh well - just the normal daylife in USA... I still wonder why do they get in the news - and if they report every similar case happening day-by-day in the USA, the crime section would be completely filled and spilling out. Well, USA still has to come out of the 18th century... Their right to own and USE a gun is stipulated in a constitution written a very long time ago - absolutely primitive.

Critics are idiots - Japan should not permit flights over it&s own teritory PERIOD. They are not overreacting, having in mind the history of North Korea, ruled by a mind deranged person.

fazool2 if you've watched the actual race you would understand the time was actually pretty good - strong gusty head or sidewinds combined with rain - not exactly your "overcast cool day" :)

You would expect more from the leader of a religion of a few hundred million people. Hopefully other catholics are smarter than him.

It seems to be a technical problem, which can happen (although it shouldn't) anywhere.

sharki - don't be a smart a**. It seems you have little to no idea about what you're talking about. Mathematical computation is NOT an intelligent behaviour. Greeks were able to build machines out or wires and wheels capable of mathematical computations 2000 years ago. Calling something that can store and recall information "intelligent" is like calling a written piece of paper intelligent - about the same level. Intelligence is the capability of creating new algorithms (problem-solving sets of steps) where there had been no solutions beforehand. This is what humans (some) and some mammals (mostly primates) do. Everything else (chess playing computers, Google search engines, chatbots) are just SIMULATING intelligence using information previously taught to them.

THe entire WWW (a huge machine with myriads of connections) is no more intelligent than a small bug looking for food.

    Sharky1 - none of the

areas of intelligence: 1. Memory storage; 2. Memory Recall; 3. Mathematical Computation

you mentioned are part of intelligent behaviour. Intelligent behaviour - if you wish, is the capability of creating new algorithms where there have been none before.

He is 100% right... Why should money I paid for my health insurance should go for treatment of smokers? The faster they die, the cheaper for everybody.

bebert - how about using the thing between you ears for a while and think that these airbags SAVE LIVES !! What kind of eco-maniac will care about fuel savings suggesting reducing the number of airbags because of their added weight??

seggame? - so what? I paid for the CRAP software by default when buying my machine (it comes with Micro$oft Windblows, even if I don't need it). M$ cant tell me how can I use the software I PAID THEM for!!!

Competition is not that tough only 1 in 3? at my uni we had a 1 in 5 entrance rate when I was admitted (for every person admitted there were 4 to5 rejected)

PepinGalarga - btw. 45000 Yen is what we paid for our new house's doorplate (made in 4 types of wood and handcarved with the names). It looks very elegant. Of course you can have cheaper ones, also looking very good but we've loved the design.

There's absolutely nothing either NEW or NEWSWORTHY in this article. Ceramic doorplates existed forever (although not necessarily in the Mashikoyaki style). At least the author should do some research and tell us more about what is soooo special whith these tiles that they deserved an article on Japantoday.

@FreeinJapan - I also believe Linux is in no way MUCH better than the other and sometimes is actually worse (requires a greater know-how and knowledge to operate) - on the other hand is completely free and OPEN - making discussions like "should we force the user to use IE either they want it or not" completely pointless.

That's why Linux can't be attacked by EU's draconian anti-monopoly laws :) Also I believe Microsoft's recent trend towards inter-operability with Linux (signed agreements both with Novell and Red-Hat) is mostly because they start loosing market and there was a too great customer demand to do so.

On the other hand, a huge of the money users pay Micro$oft (including the IE "price :) )goes to charities and such - which is a great thing I deeply respect.

Although I hate it IE it virtually free. To demonstrate other people what Linux+Wine can do, I've always had a copy installed on my Linux machines. BTW - both Microsoft and Apple's products are CRAP - use Linux. You can call Linux CRAP as well, but at least you know what kind of crap it is... With Micro$oft and Apple, you've got corporates trying to control you and your lifestyle. You're never sure what runs on your machine and what not. With Linux at least you know you're running open software. Micro$oft never had a single chance with their policies in EU. Thinking that they had to pay about 2 million $ a DAY for their stubbornness makes me shiver - all that money is taken from the innocent users who pay for something they could have for free.

Hey Asa - you got it wrong this time - nobody criticizes you but they criticize JSA. Asashoryu is not allowed to wear western clothes "except" when bringing back money to the JSA. That says a lot about the organization and their "respect" for the sumo "tradition".

Yelnats - peace, man - take a breath... I said "Most of them". Of course, some guys out there are really amazing. I'm not surfing myself but I am a photographer living not far from kujukuri-hama (one of the surfer's paradise). Some of them are really good, many don't stay more than 3 seconds ;).

Stupid unnecesarry scene in the movie (the flag fight) - why whould they make it in such a way? The historical movie "might" have happenede this way - but as you know, history depends widely on who is telling it, and the Antiquity Greeks were well known for their opens sexuality and homosexuality as well..

Haha - most of the surfers I see (either at Enoshima or at Kujukuri-Hama) don't manage to stay on the board for more than 3 seconds - this guy is amazing...
