Last year I was driving a quite new Ford Focus rent-a-car in Germany for 2 weeks. I was surprise that the small manual shift engine (1.6 Liter), even when driving moderately, consumed 10 liters of fuel per 100km.
For a rent-a-car the experience was good enough, but this way I know I should never buy a Ford.
On the contrary, this year, I had a really new BMW rent-a-car (was running only 200km before), a 320 type, and to my surprise this much more powerful BMW consumed only less than 7 liters of fuel per 100 km.
Much higher quality standard, like day and night. Maybe Japanese consumers know it. At least in the lab where I am working, several people are driving 3-Series BMW here in Japan. But Ford? Definitely less than 1 in 100.
Actually not so big a surprise, because some engine designs made by Ford are already quite old. Most of it (as sold or made in Germany or European countries nearby) are cheap cars for the masses. These types of cars (Focus, Kuga, Fusion) would fit into the Japanese market, but probably they can not compete with the prices the Japanese customer wants to pay, and the performance and quality he expects.
Why should somebody buy a Ford, if he can get a better Mazda for a more reasonable price?

Looking at their standard products,
<www.morita119.com/en/fireengine/ladder/turntable.html>
one can notice the Mercedes Benz star. For the airport fire trucks MJ-12f, engines from Iveco or Deutz are used.
These models, MJ-14F, MJ-12F, MJ-6F look realistic and seem to be well designed for their job at the airport.
However this concept vehicle looks more like the Tomy car hyper rescue series.

Zenni:
It is the 30 seconds cooking time. So probably in the microwave. Maybe even in the vinyl "as is" into the microwave. And this tells me, I should avoid to eat it.
On the other hand, if it is just for marinating, then I am also wondering. I thought using a dish or a bowl for that purpose is normal. And if it is marinating, then how does this reduce frying time to 30 seconds?
Anyhow, the picture is nice and the white dress of Mrs. Yada does not yet show stains from cooking.

The article is missing the main point. The main point should not be Meisa Kuroki, but the women who were awarded for the work in Science. Any background information there would be welcome.

Well, for starters, there is no global market for quake-resistant technology. And why? Because there are many places, where there are virtually now big earthquakes. Like Germany, France, etc. in Europe.
Posted in: The penetration of quake-resistant technology is very fast in China. We expect demand to eventually exceed Japan. We haven’t focused on the global market until now.

Is it so difficult?
1) Look into the maps of your area which show, which places are occupied and which are not. Yes, there is an office, who is specialized in this. Just ask.
2) Designate an area.
3) Go there and check the real situation.
4) Ask some construction companies for estimates for setting up temporary tents for storage.
5) At first, the radioactive debris can be put into vinyl bags, which will prevent spreading in the air.
6) Then this bags can be put into steel drums and stored or further processed.
Original problem solved.
Posted in: I can't even imagine how long it'll take to secure a site, construct a facility and then start disposing of the debris.

This is not new at all. Anyone remembers the Bond Persiflage Casino Royale (1967) with Woody Allen as Jimmy Bondi. This whole plot was based on an explosive, which was swallowed.

To add to the discussion - some times ago, Scandinavian airlines told me, that they usually don't have baby food for the economy class - they only have it for the business class. Sorry, this is not a joke, but I have already experienced that I had ordered baby meal in economy, and then at time of flight, it was not available. On the other hand, with 3 kids (well, first one, then 2 then 3) so far no big problems with long haul flights from Japan to Europe as long as the parent(s) have enough time to spend with kids. In business class, or even first class, a crying baby should not be a big deal, as most airlines have noise cancelling headphones in business (at least I know from Lufthansa).
Posted in: What do you think of the decision by Malaysian Airlines to ban babies from its first-class cabins because of complaints from other passengers that they had paid big money for first-class seats but could not sleep because of the noise?

In comparison to the others, the girl on the right, Hazuki Tsuchiya has the most natural facial expression. This is in contrast to Ebi-chan, where the facial expression looks like focused on the camera and then frozen - a visibly fake smile.
