Kenrokeun in Kanazawa is best seen in winter. bamboohat, there are large areas of Korakuen where you are encouraged to walk on the grass.

I was disappointed with this garden, just lots of lawn. Because it is considered one of the top 3 gardens in Japan, I thought it would be ornate and intimate like the nice gardens in Kyoto.

I guess it's considered special because how often do you see large public-access areas…
